Battlefield 6 Server Performance and Player Queues Addressed by Dev

The developers of Battlefield 6 are making sure the game is ready to handle a lot of players at its launch. During the beta test, you might have had to wait in a queue before starting the action. Although waiting times were longer when the game first started, they were still manageable even during peak hours. This indicated that more people wanted to play than anticipated by Battlefield Studios. Despite this high demand, the servers never crashed or experienced any unexpected downtime, suggesting that the developers kept things running smoothly.

Without any early access, everyone will rush to play Battlefield 6 on its launch day. Given my personal expectations, I imagine there may be queues for the game’s servers on release day, but the developers at Battlefield Studios are putting various precautions in place to ensure a smooth experience for players.

Battlefield 6 Team Is Overpreparing to Avoid Server Queues at Launch

I had a chat with Christian Buhl, the Studio Technical Director at Ripple Effect (one of the teams developing Battlefield 6), where we discussed their strategies for a smooth release. Known for facing issues during launches, particularly server problems, this time around, the team is making amends by rehearsing scenarios involving the expected number of players at launch, based on lessons they learned from the Battlefield 6 beta.

Buhl noted that due to the positive outcome of our open beta testing, we’ve had to make several improvements to our predictions regarding system performance and stability, including server performance and stability,” said the speaker. “In other words, we’ve been investing significant resources into enhancing these aspects. Behind the scenes, we conduct tests by simulating various scenarios – whether it’s a million or four million potential users – to determine the maximum number of simultaneous connections our systems can handle at launch.

Initially, when we first tried it out, it didn’t function as expected. Some component malfunctioned or collapsed during our testing. However, after identifying and fixing the issues, we improved the system by adding more machines and optimizing its performance. We repeated this process until we reached the desired results that we believe are necessary for a successful launch.

At the launch of Battlefield 6, it’s unlikely you’ll encounter server queues frequently. The developers aren’t anticipating needing them because they’re overestimating the number of players who will play the game at launch to ensure their servers are ready. However, you might initially experience queues to regulate player entry and prevent a rush that could overwhelm the game. But if the launch goes smoothly and attracts more players than expected, there may be occasional queues.

As a devoted gamer, I’m excited to share that our team has been strategizing to ensure a smooth launch experience for you all. While we’ll certainly keep the tool handy, our goal is to make it unnecessary for the launch itself. We’ve got some impressive projections, and we’re working diligently to surpass them, reducing the chances of server queues during launch as much as possible.

However, let me clarify one thing – while we aim to avoid server queues, they will still be employed for rate limiting purposes. In other words, if a million players connect in the first minute (which I’m hoping happens!), there might be a brief queue as we efficiently manage the influx of players. But rest assured, it’s all part of our plan to provide an enjoyable gaming experience for everyone.

Apart from that special case, we don’t intend to utilize queues. We have established a limit, yet we are intentionally setting it far above our anticipated need. Frankly, surpassing this limit would be wonderful, but yes, our primary aim is to ensure we don’t reach the cap during launch. Our goal remains to provide an exceptional player experience, so even if it means avoiding overcrowding by setting a high limit, we will do so.

Battlefield 6 will release on October 10th.
