I remember when Battlefield 6 was first announced, one of the biggest things they hyped was how realistic everything would look, even the character skins. They even made fun of Call of Duty’s more over-the-top cosmetics in their announcement trailer! So, honestly, I can’t say I’m surprised people are upset about skins like ‘Wicked Grin’. It’s an Assault class skin with bright blue everything and this goofy mask that feels way more at home in Fortnite than Battlefield. DICE and EA really can’t be shocked that players are calling it out.
The developer is responding to user feedback and making changes rapidly. The System Override outfit has also been updated with more subdued colors, moving away from a very bright, high-energy look. The new design is darker and more streamlined, potentially more realistic for military wear than a standard NATO uniform.
Reddit’s reaction is a mix of optimism (“They’re listening!”) and sarcasm. One user, Nexusu, joked about hoping the fix would be as simple as adjusting the colors. Another, a5ncz, sarcastically wondered how they’d upset the people who threatened to stop helping anyone wearing the item, and shared a GIF of Tobias from Arrested Development crying in the shower to illustrate the frustration.
It’s still uncertain whether DICE will continue to prioritize its current approach to cosmetic items, particularly given the potential for profit, which Electronic Arts – its parent company – would likely welcome.
Battlefield 6 is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It quickly became popular, selling over seven million copies in just three days. While it’s not as popular as Call of Duty on consoles in the US, it’s the top choice for PC gamers. Plus, a free-to-play battle royale game called Battlefield: RedSec has launched with the start of Season 1.
