Battlefield 6 Will Require PC Players to Enable Secure Boot for Anti-Cheat

In the upcoming initial phase of beta tests for Battlefield 6 later this week, Electronic Arts (EA) together with developers Ripple Effect, DICE, and Criterion have disclosed details about the type of anti-cheat system they’ll be employing in the game. Unlike a standard anti-cheat solution such as Easy Anti-Cheat, Battlefield 6 will utilize its own in-house tool called Javelin. This isn’t new to Battlefield enthusiasts, considering that this anti-cheat solution has been in existence for some time. EA has further clarified that the anti-cheat system will also leverage Secure Boot on PC.

In a blog post discussing specifics, it’s stated that Secure Boot is essential for boosted security and will enable new anti-cheat functionalities within Battlefield 6. Secure Boot, combined with TPM (Trusted Platform Module), prevents cheats from arising during the Windows boot process by blocking them at their source, thanks to EA Javelin Anticheat. Additionally, EA’s internal team, known as the Battlefield Positive Play team, will be implementing additional strategies to counteract cheating in the game.

One method of rephrasing this passage is as follows:

Javelin aims to stop certain forms of cheating, such as kernel-level conversations and rootkits, modifying and inserting memory, deceiving and manipulating hardware IDs, using virtual machines or emulation, and tampering with anti-cheat systems. To ensure the security of Battlefield 6, Secure Boot is a mandatory feature that prevents the game from starting if it’s disabled in the player’s UEFI/BIOS settings. An error message will appear to inform players that they must enable Secure Boot.

Today saw the early availability of a pre-load for the beta version of “Battlefield 6”. This is in anticipation for the initial beta test of the game, which will commence as a closed beta on August 7th. The beta will then expand to include everyone on August 9th, but it will only run until August 10th. To participate in the closed beta, gamers can tune into affiliated streamers or subscribe to EA Play Pro. Both these avenues provide access to the early beta of the game.

As a passionate gamer, it’s been amazing to see the buzz surrounding our game! Even before the official beta launch, the pre-load phase attracted over 9,000 concurrent players, setting an all-time high for us. And guess what? As I write this, there are still 5,600 of us in-game right now, customizing settings and exploring menus since there’s not much else to do yet. The anticipation is real!

After the significant multiplayer unveiling for Battlefield 6 last week, there have been further disclosures about the online shooter. Among these revelations, DICE has verified that at its release, the game will boast over 40 weapons categorized in various ways. Additionally, the Steam version of Battlefield 6 won’t require the EA App, but players will still need an active EA account.

Battlefield 6 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 10.
