Although Battlefield Studios hasn’t officially revealed details about the battle royale mode for Battlefield 6, information is starting to surface through leaks and rumors. According to ModernWarzone, this game mode will be called Battlefield: RedSec when it launches with the game.
The battle royale mode is getting a new name, which likely means the end of the current Firestorm mode. Firestorm first appeared in Battlefield 5 in 2019.
Sources suggest that Battlefield Studios is planning a surprise release for the new game mode, Battlefield: RedSec. They don’t intend to release any trailers or official announcements beforehand. Instead, it seems RedSec will be unexpectedly added to Battlefield 6 as part of a large update launching with Season 1 on October 28th. This information has been confirmed by gaming insider Tom Henderson on social media.
According to insider Tom Henderson, the Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode is scheduled for an unannounced release on October 28th. He explained that the decision to release the mode this way was led by Byron Beede, who was also involved in the surprise launch of Call of Duty: Warzone.
He believes Byron Beede is spearheading this effort, likely because Beede was instrumental in developing Warzone’s surprise release strategy and is probably using the same approach now.
Battlefield Studios has been experimenting with a battle royale mode using its Battlefield Labs playtests. Although these tests are currently paused while the team focuses on launching Season 1, information about the mode was shared recently.
The team has used feedback from players testing the battle royale mode in Battlefield Labs to make several improvements. These include adjustments to damage at close range, changes to the starting equipment, and enhancements to the game’s environments and vehicles. Battlefield Studios also announced that Season 1 will arrive for Battlefield 6 on October 28th, bringing all of these updates and more.
Earlier this month, Battlefield Studios released a trailer for Season 1 of Battlefield 6, showcasing the new content planned over the next three months. The season begins with ‘Rogue Ops,’ which includes the new Strikepoint game mode and the Blackwell Fields map. The following month, ‘California Resistance’ will add the Eastwood map and another new mode called Sabotage.
Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale mode is confirmed to be called “Battlefield: RedSec.” It will launch on October 28th, as we previously reported, but it appears there won’t be any trailers or official announcements until the launch day itself. The release will be a surprise launch, with no prior warning.

I think Byron Beede is the main person driving this, and since he was crucial to how Warzone originally surprised players with new content, he’s likely doing the same thing again.
