Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale Mode Will Have the Same System of Destruction as the Core Game

Although details are still limited, playtests for the upcoming battle royale mode in *Battlefield 6* are underway through *Battlefield* Labs. Lead producer David Sirland recently confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that this mode will share the same environmental destruction features as the main multiplayer modes.

When asked if players could completely demolish buildings in the battle royale mode, Sirland explained that buildings wouldn’t disappear entirely – some rubble would remain. The amount of debris would vary depending on the building’s construction. The developers are prioritizing a clear and enjoyable gameplay experience, so complete destruction isn’t the focus.

Sirland posted on X, stating that even with current systems, destruction still leaves behind a lot of debris. The extent of the damage depends heavily on the house’s construction and materials. He emphasized that simply demolishing everything isn’t a solution – it’s something we already understand. He added that rebuilding and restoring things to a usable condition is actually much more complex than just tearing things down, and it requires careful effort to achieve a good result.

Sirland confirmed that Battlefield Studios adjusted the destruction levels in the game since the open beta. Now, the amount of damage done will depend on what the building is made of – a single explosive won’t instantly demolish everything. They’ve made it so destruction feels more realistic based on the building materials.

He explained that damage balance is customized for each material and damage type – for example, explosions behave differently than bullets. They’ve been adjusting these settings since the open beta to achieve consistency and make impactful events happen naturally during gameplay. The aim is to create varied matches where not everything is immediately destroyed, ensuring each game feels unique.

Earlier this month, Battlefield Studios announced a playtest for their new battle royale mode. They’ve confirmed that the mode will still feel like classic Battlefield, keeping key elements like destructible environments, squads, gadgets, and vehicles.

In this new mode, *Battlefield* puts its own spin on the battle royale format. Players can expect familiar *Battlefield* elements – like gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles – all used to help them achieve victory, according to the company’s announcement about the playtests.

A new battle royale mode is coming to the game, and it will feature a completely original map designed specifically for this type of gameplay. Players can expect to find lots of interesting locations to explore, each with unique themes and designs. While basic vehicles will be readily available, more powerful ones, like armored vehicles, will need to be found during the match. Matches will support up to 100 players, divided into teams of four – a total of 25 squads.

The new Battlefield game will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 10th. Developers used the Xbox Series S to help optimize the game for all platforms, and you can find more information about that process online.
