The newest *Battlefield* game shares a lot of similarities with *Battlefield 3*, though it might not be immediately obvious if you haven’t played that older title recently. Both *Call of Duty* and *Battlefield* are famous for their multiplayer, but they both also include single-player campaigns. While these campaigns are a good introduction to the games, *Call of Duty* has generally been considered stronger in this area. *Battlefield* campaigns are decent, but many FPS players find them to be fairly standard military stories, with the *Bad Company* games being notable exceptions.
Despite being an older game, *Battlefield 3*’s story still resonates with many players. It features memorable missions, like an early jet sequence that was technically impressive and very immersive. The narrative itself is engaging, following the story of Henry Blackburn, a U.S. soldier stationed in the Middle East. After shooting his superior and attempting to warn authorities about a potential terrorist attack in New York City, Blackburn is taken into custody and interrogated by the CIA.

Battlefield 6‘s Main Villain Played a Role in Battlefield 3‘s Story
Blackburn only appeared prominently in one game, but he’s been mentioned in others, including *Battlefield 2042*. Later in the series, he transforms into a villain, leading a private military company involved in questionable activities. However, he justifies these actions by believing he’s ultimately working to improve the world.
Throughout *Battlefield 6*, the name Blackburn comes up frequently. The game takes place in 2028 and centers on a Marine squad called Dagger 13, led by Haz Carter. As the story unfolds, we discover Carter participated in past conflicts, including events from *Battlefield 3* and *Battlefield 4*. During the fourth mission, it’s revealed that Blackburn’s experiences are part of Marine training exercises, and Carter played a supporting role in those events.
So, I heard this crazy story about a mission I was on with the SAS, going after Faruk Al-Bashir – the guy hiding weapons of mass destruction near the Iraq-Syria border. We were trying to gather intel on chemical weapons, but things went totally sideways. Turns out Kincaid, the bad guy from *Battlefield 6*, was leading the SAS team with us. When everything hit the fan, he was trying to save his guys, but I had to make the tough call and pull my team out. We basically had to leave Kincaid behind. That’s actually how he ended up becoming the villain he is in the game – it’s like that experience totally radicalized him.
As I was playing, I kept noticing little nods to *Battlefield 3*. It really hit home when I got to the New York section and was trying to stop the latest terrorist threat. Lopez mentions how the city has been through this before, and it definitely made the citizens feel extra scared – a clear parallel to real-world events, but also a direct callback to the final mission in *Battlefield 3* where Blackburn saves Times Square from a nuke! It was cool to see that connection.
The story mode in *Battlefield 6* isn’t particularly strong, but it’s good to see the developers referencing earlier games in the series. Fans who follow the established storyline have long wanted to see more of the character Blackburn, especially after his story was ignored for years. Some even predicted he’d be the antagonist in *Battlefield 6* because the game’s timeline seemed to set it up, but the developers decided against that idea.
