Despite the success of Battlefield 6 and the positive reception of the work done by studios like DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive Studios, and Criterion, Marcus Lehto, a former director on the project, has expressed disappointment that he and his team at Ridgeline Games weren’t properly credited for their contributions.
I just saw a post from Markus Lehto on LinkedIn, and it’s pretty interesting. He talked about how his old team at Ridgeline Games spent one to two and a half years working on the single-player campaign for Battlefield 6 before things changed. For those who don’t know, I remember Ridgeline was led by Lehto himself – he was VP, GM, and Creative Director there – but the studio ended up closing. After that, Criterion Games took over finishing the campaign.
Lehto expressed disappointment on LinkedIn that many former colleagues from Ridgeline Games weren’t given credit in the new Battlefield 6 game.
The game’s foundation was built by a team of dedicated developers who spent between one and two and a half years working on it. I left the project voluntarily, and shortly after, the studio closed. Unfortunately, despite their hard work, most of the laid-off team were only given a brief acknowledgement in the game’s end credits – and some, including myself, weren’t credited at all.
Lehto recently shared a picture listing the developers who worked on Battlefield 6 at Ridgeline Games but weren’t included in the game’s credits. This list includes names like software engineers Jessica Moore and Dan Carr, lead tech artist Rohan Knuckey, and lead character artist Andres Naranjo, alongside Lehto’s own name.
He explained he wanted to give proper credit to his colleagues for their hard work on the project, listing their names and roles as he originally intended in the credits. He emphasized that making games is a collaborative process, and everyone who contributed deserves to be recognized.
Electronic Arts (EA) and Battlefield Studios are celebrating the strong launch of Battlefield 6. Last week, EA announced that over 7 million copies of the game sold in its first three days on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players also jumped in quickly, with over 172 million matches played during the launch weekend, and fans watched around 15 million hours of gameplay on platforms like Twitch.
In a recent statement, Battlefield Studios executive Vince Zampella expressed deep appreciation for both the studio team and the game’s dedicated community. He said they don’t take the launch of Battlefield 6 for granted and are thankful for everyone’s support. Zampella also hinted at more exciting content coming soon.
