With more and more talk about using artificial intelligence in game creation, EA and Battlefield Studios are now facing criticism. Players of the game Battlefield 6 have noticed that a new sticker for player cards included in the recently released Windchill bundle appears to have been created using AI.
Someone on Reddit noticed something unusual in the upcoming Battlefield 6: a sticker for player cards showing a soldier with a rifle. While the sticker looks mostly hand-drawn, the rifle – an M4A1 with two barrels – clearly shows it was created using artificial intelligence.
The online conversation about this has turned into a place where many players are criticizing Battlefield Studios over the sticker. Some have pointed out that the mistake could have been quickly fixed.
Neither Battlefield Studios nor EA has commented on whether they plan to use generative AI in the next Battlefield game. However, they usually listen to player feedback, especially regarding in-game cosmetics. We saw this recently in October when players complained about the ‘Wicked Grin’ skin, saying the blue color was too bright and oversaturated compared to the more realistic colors of other skins.
One player expressed disappointment online, noting that the game was expected to feature realistic character skins – clothing someone might actually wear in a war. They worried that the launch of season 1 would introduce overly colorful designs, making it difficult to distinguish between teams and giving the game a feel more akin to paintball or airsoft. The player criticized the planned skins as being visually cluttered and strange. Following this feedback, the “Wicked Grin” skin was removed from the game, but Battlefield Studios didn’t offer any explanation for the change.
The System Override skin also received criticism for its bright green color, with some players comparing it to Monster Energy drink cans. Unlike some other skins, it wasn’t removed from Battlefield 6 when it was released.
Generative AI has become a hot topic in the video game industry lately. The conversation started when Swen Vincke, founder of Larian Studios (known for Divinity), explained they were using AI to help their developers, not replace them. This sparked further discussion, including comments from Daniel Vávra, co-founder of Warhorse Studios (Kingdom Come: Deliverance), who highlighted the potential benefits of AI. Even Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid, believes AI is here to stay, comparing its impact to that of smartphones.
This definitely looks AI Generated right? #Battlefield6
