Electronic Arts has just released Battlefield REDSEC, a free-to-play, first-person shooter battle royale game, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. You can download it through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Here is an overview of the game, via Electronic Arts:
About
Battlefield REDSEC is a free-to-play experience built on the core of Battlefield, offering a fresh take on the Battle Royale format. It also includes Gauntlet, a fast-paced, team-focused competitive mode, and expands the possibilities of Portal. REDSEC launches with Season 1 of Battlefield 6, bringing the action to Southern California and adding new content to the all-out warfare experience.
Players can now jump into the action with the release of Battlefield REDSEC. This exciting game takes place in a fully destructible California setting called Fort Lyndon, offering explosive gameplay across beaches and suburban neighborhoods.
Okay, so I just got to try out this new free-to-play mode, and it’s awesome! You drop into Fort Lyndon, which is seriously the biggest map Battlefield has ever made, and it’s a totally new take on Battle Royale. It really feels like Battlefield – that core gameplay I love – but blended with everything that makes Battle Royale fun. Basically, you’re fighting with 100 other players, scavenging for gear, and trying to eliminate other squads. But the cool part is the destruction – you can really change the battlefield, create your own routes, and even use the environment against your enemies. Every match is epic and feels like you’re in a blockbuster action movie – that’s just what Battlefield does best!
Battlefield REDSEC’s free-to-play experience now features Gauntlet, a new mode that takes team competition to the next level. Eight squads of four players face off in a fast-paced, tournament-style elimination mode with dynamic, round-based missions. Each round gives squads 5 minutes to complete their objectives, and players should be ready for anything, as the rounds, locations, and missions are always changing.
In Battlefield REDSEC, Battlefield Portal lets you break the usual rules and create unique gameplay experiences. You can design your own battles or discover creations from other players, all within the dynamic Fort Lyndon environment. Imagine intense matches with only sledgehammers, competitive headshot-only showdowns, or completely original game modes – it’s all possible with these free, powerful customization tools in the Fort Lyndon sandbox.
Season 1
Season 1 is now live and will roll out in three parts through the holidays. The first part, called “Rogue Operations,” is available today and includes three new weapons, a new map called Blackwell Fields, and a new multiplayer mode called Strikepoint. Blackwell Fields offers large-scale battles in a Southern California setting. Strikepoint is a fast-paced, squad-based mode inspired by Battlefield REDSEC, where teams of four compete in one-life-per-round matches to capture a single point.
The new season launches with the “Rogue Operations” Battle Pass, featuring 100 tiers, six different progression paths, and 10 prestige levels. Players can also purchase an enhanced Battle Pass and exclusive content in the premium store.
We’re releasing two more updates for Season 1 this year. First, California Resistance arrives on November 18th, featuring a new map based on Southern California suburbs and a “Sabotage” mode where players race to destroy targets. Then, on December 9th, Winter Offensive will bring special content themed around the winter season.
We’ll regularly add new content like maps, game modes, and weapons. Importantly, all features that affect gameplay will be free or available to earn through playing the game – we want to ensure fairness and accessibility for everyone. Just like we did with Battlefield Labs, we’ll continue to develop both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC alongside our players, using their feedback to shape the games and expand the Battlefield universe.
