Since the 2010s, one of the most significant unfulfilled expectations in the gaming world has been the cancellation of the Hideo Kojima-led Silent Hills game, along with its free, PS4-exclusive teaser P.T., which was later delisted and removed from consoles with internet connections. Recently, on social media, Hideki Kamiya, creator of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, expressed thoughts about the impact of P.T. and expressed his hope that Kojima might create a similar project in the future.
As a passionate admirer, I’ve been expressing my thoughts on social media about “The Exit 8”, a chilling horror title set for release in 2023. It’s evoked memories of Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece, “P.T.”, and I can’t help but yearn for his return to the realm of terrifying game design. In an ideal world, I’d love to see him revisit this style of horror in future projects. However, while I might dabble, it’s unlikely that I’ll be creating a horror game myself!
In response to the launch of “[The Exit 8],” the writer initially assumed it was similar to “[P.T.]” and anticipated a lot of discussion surrounding it. However, surprisingly, there weren’t many comments about it, and instead, they started hearing the term “8th-like.” The author then expressed confusion, stating that indeed, “[P.T.]” has been forever shrouded in darkness. The writer criticized Konami for their apparent foolishness in this matter. (Paraphrased version)
As a gaming enthusiast, if resurrecting P.T. is out of the question for Kojima-san, he should just cook up another game with that eerie, suspenseful vibe instead. But, if he’s not up for it, maybe I’ll step in… You see, horror isn’t really my cup of tea. So, it wouldn’t be a traditional horror game. As for the ideas, truth be told, I’m fresh out right now, but hey, you never know what inspiration might strike!
During his time away from Konami, Hideo Kojima has explored various genres, particularly with the innovative gameplay of the two Death Stranding games. Currently, he’s engrossed in creating a new horror game titled “OD.” This project is being developed jointly with acclaimed horror filmmaker Jordan Peele and in collaboration with Microsoft. They plan to leverage Microsoft’s advanced cloud technologies to deliver an unprecedented horror experience.
Since the initial announcement of OD, specific details about it have yet to be disclosed. However, trademarked names such as Social Scream and Social Stealth hint towards two possible new systems in the upcoming game. These system names were unveiled through trademark filings in December 2023, suggesting that OD may incorporate a multiplayer element, similar to the asynchronous multiplayer found in both Death Stranding games.
Along with OD, Kojima Productions is also working on a new espionage game dubbed Physint.
P.T.の復活が無理なら小島さんまた同じスタイルのゲーム作ればいいのに…
