BBC confirms unreleased MasterChef season with Gregg Wallace and John Torode will air – and reveals franchise will return

On Wednesday, 6th August, the BBC is set to broadcast previously unreleased episodes of MasterChef with Gregg Wallace and John Torode on both BBC One and iPlayer.

The prospect of MasterChef returning to our screens became uncertain as it was revealed that neither Torode nor Wallace would continue in future episodes of the show.

Following thoughtful discussions involving all participants, it has been determined that the amateur version of MasterChef will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer starting from the 6th of August.

MasterChef represents a captivating contest that can significantly transform the lives of its participant amateur chefs. Throughout, the emphasis lies on showcasing their culinary skills and chronicling their personal journeys.

Making this choice wasn’t straightforward given the circumstances, and we understand not everyone may concur. By airing the series, which was produced last year, we’re in no way lessening our respect for the validity of the findings against the presenters. Instead, we are upholding our commitment to broadcasting a wide range of content.

As a discerning movie critic, I’ve always made it a point to emphasize the professional conduct expected within my sphere, be it colleagues in the film industry or contributors to the cinematic productions I critique. In essence, we strive for an environment where all parties involved uphold our shared values and standards.

In a different wording: “Nevertheless, it seems appropriate to air this cooking series, considering all the effort these chefs have put in. Our aim is to honor their dedication and provide viewers with an opportunity to witness their work.

Previously, an investigation was initiated last year by MasterChef’s production company, Banijay, and conducted by the independent law firm Lewis Silkin following accusations of past misconduct against Wallace. The allegations included inappropriate sexual comments made towards 13 individuals over a span of 17 years across five distinct programs.

In the following account, it was indicated that a grand total of 83 claims of misbehavior had been leveled against Wallace historically, with 45 of these instances being verified as valid.

The BBC then announced that it had “no plans to work with [Wallace] in the future”.

Before the release of the Silkins report, Wallace publicly stated on his Instagram post that he was exonerated from the gravest and scandalous allegations leveled against him.

He stated that the accusations, even those made by prominent individuals whose validity had not been confirmed, were discovered to be unsubstantiated following a thorough and comprehensive six-month examination.

I acknowledge that on certain occasions, my humor and choice of words may have been unsuitable. To those I offended, I offer a sincere apology with no qualifications. However, it’s important to clarify that the exaggerated version of myself being presented for attention is not an accurate portrayal of who I truly am.

On the next day, the BBC announced that Torode would not be coming back as well, following the validation of claims he had used racially offensive language within his work environment.

Previously, it was made known that Torode was involved in a claim, yet he stated he has no memory of the event as reported.

After catching up on recent news, Torode posted on Instagram: “I haven’t received any communication from the BBC or Banijay yet, but it appears I’ve been let go from MasterChef. To clarify, I don’t remember being accused of anything.

1. “The inquiry failed to specify the exact date or year when I was supposedly supposed to make a mistake. I had expected some input regarding my departure from a program I’ve been part of since its re-launch in 2005, but recent events appear to have hindered that.”

2. “The investigation didn’t provide the specific date or year when I was supposedly said something incorrectly. I had hoped for some involvement in my departure from a show I joined after its re-launch in 2005, but recent happenings seem to have blocked that.”

As of now, I haven’t received word yet about the release of our celebrity series and the Christmas special that we’ve already filmed. The BBC has mentioned they will share their plans for these shows at a later date this year.

However, it reiterated that the MasterChef franchise will continue without Wallace and Torode.

Today, it was confirmed that MasterChef remains a highly acclaimed, cherished television series, transcending any single person. Numerous gifted, committed, and industrious individuals contribute to its success. The show will persist in thriving on the BBC, and we eagerly anticipate its return, stronger than before.
