This week saw the end of both South Park and the third season of the Beavis and Butt-Head revival. A key change in the latest season of Beavis and Butt-Head was the introduction of different versions of the characters – older Beavis and Butt-Head who look different but still act the same. The season finale took things even further by featuring intelligent versions of the duo and bringing back a familiar face from MTV who hasn’t been seen in years.
Heads up! This article contains spoilers for the season three finale of Beavis and Butt-Head. The show recently introduced smarter versions of Beavis and Butt-Head in the movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe. In the finale, these intelligent characters visit Earth and discover the concept of self-satisfaction, something completely new to them. They’re brought before a council made up of familiar faces like Coach Buzzcut, Stewart, and Mr. Van Driessen. Surprisingly, Daria Morgendorffer is also on the council and appears to be the only one using common sense.
It’s fitting that Daria is returning in the new Beavis and Butt-Head series, given her history with the show. She started as a side character in the original Beavis and Butt-Head, then got her own popular animated series, Daria, which ran until 2002. Though Beavis and Butt-Head never appeared on Daria, the two shows have always been connected. While Daria hasn’t had a reboot of her own yet, it’s clear the creators haven’t forgotten about this memorable MTV character. You can see a picture of Daria, dubbed “Smart Daria,” below.

Is a Daria Reboot in The Cards?

Mike Judge has revived both Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, but there haven’t been any updates about bringing back Daria. Although Judge created the character of Daria Morgendorffer, he wasn’t the writer of the Daria series. MTV announced in 2018 that a new Daria show would focus on Daria and her friend Jodie Landon, but the project was ultimately cancelled.
The new series, Daria & Jodie, offers a fresh take on the classic animated franchise, following Daria Morgendorffer and her friend Jodie Landon. Together, these intelligent and witty young women explore and critique the world around them, tackling topics like pop culture, social status, gender, and race with their signature humor.
Last year, Deadline reported that the animated film project was cancelled by MTV Entertainment Studios. A representative stated they enjoyed working with the team – including Tracee and Grace – and praised the film’s inclusive and diverse cast and unique style. They expressed support for the project finding a new studio and hope to collaborate with the team again in the future. As of now, the project hasn’t been picked up elsewhere, but given the growing popularity of animation, a revival isn’t out of the question.
Currently, there’s no official word on what the future holds for the animated shows Daria and Beavis and Butt-Head. While a fourth season hasn’t been confirmed, Judge is expected to remain busy with other projects. Good news for fans of King of the Hill: thanks to the show’s popular revival on Hulu, Hank Hill’s story will continue with seasons fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen. Though the release date hasn’t been announced, fans are hoping to see the new season on Hulu in 2026.
