Following the hit sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton’s iconic ghost is coming back for another movie. It’s surprising a third film is happening so soon, considering it took 36 years to make Beetlejuice Beetlejuice after the first one – and there were even a couple of attempts that didn’t pan out. However, longtime fans – especially those who grew up watching TV in the late 80s – might remember that Beetlejuice actually appeared on screen just a year after the original movie.
The popular character Beetlejuice starred in a cartoon series that originally ran from 1989 to 1991, with 94 episodes across four seasons. The show first aired on ABC and later moved to Fox for its final, extended season. Now, all episodes of Beetlejuice are coming to the Tubi streaming service, where fans can watch them for free starting March 1st.
Beetlejuice is Different from the Movie, But It’s Still Great

It’s not surprising that turning Beetlejuice into a cartoon seemed like a difficult idea. The original movie was wild, a little twisted, and much more mature than most kids’ shows. I remember being genuinely scared by parts of it, especially the creepy waiting room for the afterlife! (I probably watched it before I should have.) But I was an odd kid, so don’t take my experience as parenting advice. The cartoon version, understandably, was much milder and presented Beetlejuice as more of a good guy.
Michael Keaton wasn’t the voice of Beetlejuice in the cartoon version; instead, Stephen Ouimette took on the role. Alyson Court voiced Lydia Deetz, stepping in for Winona Ryder (she later became known for voicing Jubilee in X-Men: The Animated Series and Claire Redfield in the Resident Evil games). Both Ouimette and Court did a fantastic job, and many fans feel Ouimette’s Beetlejuice voice is actually closer to the one used in the recent stage musical than Keaton’s more rough-toned performance.
As a huge Tim Burton fan, I always loved that this cartoon really leaned into his unique, quirky style. Honestly, the animation let them get even more creative with the visuals than some of his live-action stuff. It’s still a blast to watch decades later, and it’s been killing me that it wasn’t available to stream for so long! Thankfully, Tubi has finally come through, and now we can all enjoy it again while we eagerly await his next film.
