Beloved 1960s TV series to return with new reboot – and a Hollywood legend is in talks to star

Warner Bros. is reportedly developing a live-action movie based on the classic cartoon The Jetsons, and they’re in discussions with a well-known actor to play the lead role.

A new Jetsons movie is in the works, written by Colin Trevorrow (known for Jurassic World) and Joe Epstein. Trevorrow is also potentially directing. This will be the fourth adaptation of the classic cartoon, following the original series from 1962-1963, a revival in the 1980s, and a previous animated film released in 1990.

The Jetsons is a classic cartoon about a family – George and Jane Jetson, their kids Judy and Elroy, and their robot maid Rosie – living in a futuristic city in space. It was often seen as a modern, high-tech version of The Flintstones.

Reports suggest Jim Carrey may appear in a new film, following his last role in 2024’s *Sonic the Hedgehog 3*.

After the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022, Jim Carrey hinted he was considering retirement from acting, leading many to believe we wouldn’t see him in future films.

He admitted to Access Hollywood that he was seriously considering leaving his role, but he left the door open to staying if a truly exceptional script came along. He said he’d continue only if he felt the project had a vital message for audiences.

Jim Carrey likely won’t reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in the next Sonic movie, as his character appeared to die at the end of the third film.

Very few actors could have successfully played this role—maybe just one. Comedy is incredibly difficult, you know?
