It’s time to get comfortable because October is here, and that means cozy movie nights! While October is known for scary movies and spooky fun, it’s also a great time to revisit beloved, heartwarming classics that offer a little magic and a touching story. This month, a much-loved film is coming back to streaming services just as the sequel is being finished, and good news for fans – you can watch it on more than one platform, and one of those options is free.
The beloved 1998 movie Practical Magic is now available for streaming again, starting October 1st, on both HBO Max and Tubi. The film features Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sisters, Gillian and Sally Owens, who come from a family with a long history of witchcraft. After their parents pass away because of a family curse, they are raised by their aunts. Trouble arises when Gillian’s controlling boyfriend suddenly dies, forcing the sisters to embrace powerful magic and unintentionally create bigger problems. While the movie initially received varied reviews, it has become a lasting favorite with audiences and achieved cult classic status. Many people make it a yearly tradition to watch it each fall, and now it’s even easier to do so with its availability on two streaming platforms. Find out more about the cast and the making of the film!
Production on Practical Magic 2 Recently Wrapped

As a fan, I was thrilled to see Practical Magic available on both HBO Max and Tubi, but the good news doesn’t stop there! Last June, a sequel was announced, and it sounds like a lot of the original cast will be back. They’ve also added some fantastic new faces – Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Solly McLeod, Joey King, and Xolo Maridueña, to name a few. Filming actually started this past July, and just last month, Kidman announced on social media that they’d wrapped! We can mark our calendars now, because Practical Magic 2 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 18, 2026.
As a critic, I’m excited to share some details about the upcoming sequel! It’s going to continue the story of the Owens sisters, picking up right where the first film left off. Whatâs really interesting is that the filmmakers are drawing heavily from Alice Hoffmanâs 2021 novel, The Book of Magic – itâs actually a direct sequel to the novel, The Practical Magic, that the first movie was based on. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised a very faithful adaptation of the book, and thatâs fantastic news! Fans have been passionately requesting a sequel for over 20 years, all because they fell so deeply in love with the characters – brought to life so brilliantly by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman – and want to see more of their story.
Practical Magic is now streaming on both HBO Max and Tubi.
