The 2021 *Jujutsu Kaisen* prequel movie was incredibly popular, telling the story of Yuta Okkotsu as he trained to become a sorcerer. It takes place a year before the events of the main series, before Yuji Itadori consumed Sukuna’s finger. Released shortly after the first season ended, the movie benefited from the series’ peak popularity. Following its success, *Jujutsu Kaisen* creator Gege Akutami released a bonus chapter in 2021. This chapter, which hasn’t been animated and might not be, focuses on the prequel characters during their first year of training. It offers a lighter, more humorous look at these characters, a welcome change of pace in the typically dark world of *Jujutsu Kaisen*.
This chapter quickly became a fan favorite, particularly among those who enjoy the relationship between Yuta and Maki, as their interactions were especially endearing. In addition to focusing on four students, the chapter also includes appearances by Satoru Gojo, Shoko Ieri, and Utahime Iori, a teacher at Kyoto Jujutsu High. Although these touching scenes haven’t been shown in the anime, they were included in the popular mobile game, *Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade*. The game is back with new challenges for the characters, and fans instantly recognized and shared clips of these scenes on social media, causing them to go viral.

This extra story was released after chapter 168, during the Culling Game arc of the manga. It takes place after Suguru Geto’s death, showing Yuta and his friends as first-year students at Jujutsu High. They quickly run out of money – in just two weeks – and need to find jobs that pay daily. Shoko Ieri helps them by recommending them to a friend’s shop. The story includes scenes like Yuta and Maki cooking together, and also features original artwork of the characters from *JJK 0*. It also recreates a scene where Geto’s adopted twin sisters, Mimiko and Nanako, are trying crepes on Takeshita Street.
In a surprising turn of events, a character gathered other curse users and launched an attack on Jujutsu High, but the assault was cut short when he learned a nearby store was closing. Based on the popular anime and manga, *Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade* is the first official mobile game adaptation. Developed by Sumzap, this free-to-play RPG first launched in Japan on November 21, 2023, and became available worldwide on November 7, 2024. Players can experience the game’s story with fully voiced cutscenes and battles, and even utilize Cursed Techniques.
Fans are excited for the third season of *Jujutsu Kaisen*, coming in Winter 2026, which will finally adapt the long-awaited Culling Game Arc. Plus, the story continues with a new series, *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, featuring art by Yuji Iwasaki and currently appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump. This new series, along with the original characters and storylines, is sure to keep fans engaged.
