The popular comic series Fence, known for its exciting portrayal of the fencing world, first launched in 2017 and has been a hit ever since. It’s grown beyond the initial 12-issue run to include graphic novels and shorter stories, and has even won a GLAAD award. Now, BOOM! Studios is bringing Fence back in January with a brand new, extra-long one-shot issue, and ComicBook has a sneak peek at what’s coming next.
The first issue of Fence Breakthrough: Quarter Clash arrives in comic shops on January 7, 2026, continuing the popular Fence series. The story picks up with the King’s Row team reaching the quarterfinals, and naturally, there will be plenty of exciting drama. Check out a preview below!
Fence Breakthrough: Quarter Clash #1 Is The Exciting Next Chapter For the Fan-Favorite Series

The exciting continuation of the Fence series, Fence Breakthrough: Quarter Clash from bestselling author C.S. Pacat and artist Johanna the Mad, finds the King’s Row fencing team in the quarterfinals—just one win away from facing their rivals, Exton! But their star player, Aiden, is losing focus, and his teammates are used to it. Can Harvard get Aiden back on track before his distraction costs them the match? Or will they have to decide if they can win without him?
The first issue of Fence Breakthrough: Quarter Clash will stop accepting pre-orders on November 24th. The main cover art is by the series artist, Johanna the Mad, with variant covers created by Sina Grace.
The comic series Fence has been popular with readers since it first came out. It originally followed Nicholas, the son of a former Olympic fencer, as he tried to become a champion himself. Now, the series has grown to include more characters and storylines, blending the excitement of competitive fencing with romantic relationships. Fence is especially well-known for its positive and inclusive LGBTQ+ representation.
As a huge comic book fan, I’m really excited about the upcoming release of Fence Breakthrough: Quarter Clash #1 from BOOM! Studios. It hits comic shops on January 7, 2026, but if you want to make sure you get a copy, you need to get your pre-orders in by November 24th!
So, I’m really curious – is anyone else as hyped as I am for Fence to come back? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Head over to the ComicBook Forum and let’s chat about it!
