As the January 2026 release of *Wonder Man* gets closer, we’re finally learning more about what to expect from this new Marvel series. There’s already a lot to look forward to, but a particularly exciting detail is the return of Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery. He played the actor who pretended to be the leader of the Ten Rings, unaware that the real Mandarin was watching him all along.
Kingsley recently spoke with ComicBook at New York Comic Con and shared his thoughts on his role as The Mandarin in *Iron Man 3*. He praised the writing of both *Wonder Man* and *Iron Man 3*, specifically highlighting Andrew Guest and Drew Pearce. Kingsley expressed gratitude for consistently working with talented writers, stating, “I’ve been very lucky to have good writers throughout my career. They set a high standard, and both Andrew Guest and Drew Pearce delivered wonderfully.”
How Does Trevor Feel About His Turn As The Mandarin?
When questioned about whether Trevor would look back on his decision to play The Mandarin with remorse, Ben Kingsley explained that while Trevor does regret it, he also wonders if that regret is what ultimately led him to where he is today, suggesting that all our experiences, even the negative ones, shape us. Krysten Ritter offered a simpler perspective, stating she has ‘no regrets’.
Kingsley stated they had no regrets, and with good reason. Without the Mandarin, Trevor wouldn’t have Wonder Man, and the MCU wouldn’t have taken this interesting new direction.
What role will Trevor play in *Wonder Man*? A significant one, it seems. The series begins with Simon Williams, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, seeking out the former villain known as The Mandarin. He needs help preparing for an audition—an audition for the *Wonder Man* film, which is described as being “the last movie on Earth.”
