Ben Napier and Erin Napier aren’t renovating their home rules.
It turns out that the popular HGTV stars might employ a less conventional approach when guiding their daughters Helen, age 7, and Mae, age 4, in celebrating their birthdays.
According to Ben, who is 41 years old, the rule he follows is having suppers at the grandparents’ place until the children are old enough to make their own plans for it. (This was stated in an interview with Today, published on September 9.)
Erin shared similar thoughts, expressing her preference for a low-key gathering over a grand celebration for their children’s event. She stated in their joint interview, “If a four-year-old’s birthday feels like a wedding, what should they anticipate next? Perhaps many mothers feel as I do about this, though it may not be the mainstream view.
While the Home Town co-hosts, who got married in November 2008, haven’t organized a large event for Helen and Mae in the past, it doesn’t suggest they haven’t tried. In fact, they confessed that they attempted to plan several parties, but it quickly turned into mayhem due to having “around 100 children running amok and losing control.
“It’s stressful and loud,” Ben recalled. “I was like, ‘We’re not doing this.”
Helen, at six years old, enjoyed a unique birthday celebration organized by her parents on a playground instead of at family home, inspired by cheetahs. Last June, Ben and Erin orchestrated this party complete with animal print decorations such as balloons, gift bags, food, and a cake topped with an iced-brown cheetah figure. Erin shared the joyous occasion on Instagram, posting a photo of Helen amidst her presents, accompanied by the caption, “Our oldest baby is growing up!” expressing their amazement at how fast she’s maturing.
