Berserk Author Shares Kentaro Miura’s Words About Current Arc

In the merciless realm of the Berserk series, life is tough for the Black Swordsman. Despite the heart-wrenching departure of creator Kentaro Miura, the barbarity hasn’t ceased to exist. For quite some time, it seemed like the manga had come to an end with Miura’s demise. However, his friends had other ideas. In tribute to their beloved companion, writer Kouji Mori and artists at Studio Gaga chose to carry on Guts’ journey, scripting new chapters for the Band of the Hawk. Now, with the recent release of a new manga volume, Mori has shared Miura’s views regarding the current story arc and the significance behind Guts’ emotional turmoil.

The newly released volume of Berserk has made its way to Japan, and Kouji Mori, as part of the compilation, shared the following statement: “Once again, thank you, dear readers, for choosing this new issue. We are striving to convey the story that Miura entrusted us with, but I am aware it’s an uphill battle since he is not here… In light of this, I wanted to include some insights about what he shared with me and his intentions for this current chapter in a postscript.

Afterward, Kouji shared insights from his close friend Kentaro Miura about the current storyline. As the series creator, Miura had discussed the series’ future with Mori before his death. According to Miura, Guts is deeply in despair because he has lost everything. Since that fateful day, Guts has taken immense risks in his relentless pursuit of Griffith. However, even with his sword swinging through the air, Guts couldn’t quite reach him or inflict any damage. This pivotal moment also marked the collapse of Guts’ entire life, which he had sacrificed everything for. Guts himself admitted that his sword holds great significance for him, to such an extent that he felt devoid of emotions like anger, sadness, and hatred in this instance – instead, he was left with a profound emptiness. Miura emphasized that this despair is crucial for Guts’ character development.

In the upcoming volume, we will delve into episodes that troubled Miura as well. Although these chapters are expected to be challenging, Studio Gaga promises to put forth their best efforts to bring them to life! Thank you for your continued support.

Previously on Berserk

What’s happening with the Black Swordman in the Berserk manga? After the fall of Elfhelm, Guts and his companions are now residing in the Eastern nation called Kushan, once their foe. With Griffith becoming a significant threat to unite them, it seems that Guts and his group may have found allies who can aid them against Falconia. However, the main character is currently dealing with more pressing issues.

Due to Kushan’s superiors spotting the brand on Guts’ neck, they perceive him as a danger and have ordered his expulsion. Escorting him to a cryptic cavern, it appears that Guts will have to emerge from his present melancholy rapidly if he hopes to endure this ordeal. Fortunately, the next installment of Berserk is due in Japan later this week, so we might find out whether the Black Swordsman can make it through this predicament as depicted in the story.
