A beloved independent game studio has stopped development on a highly anticipated anime project following a significant legal issue.
Studio Eclypse has paused its work again, this time to figure out its future direction without relying on fan-made content. This decision follows the rejection of their much-awaited project, The Black Swordsman, due to legal issues with the current copyright owners, Studio Gaga.
Studio Eclypse Fails to Get Rights for New Berserk Anime
The request for Studio Eclypse to stop making fan animations based on Berserk was first made over a year ago. Since then, they haven’t released any new Berserk content on their channel or social media. According to Studio Eclypse, they’ve been attempting to gain permission to work on an official Berserk adaptation.
We’ve run out of fan projects to work on for now, so we’re pausing to figure out what’s next for Studio Eclypse. We don’t want to spend years creating something only to have it removed after we release it. If you have any suggestions for projects we could tackle next year, please share them in the comments – we’d love to hear your ideas!
Studio Eclypse is known for creating fan animations and independent projects, and their work has received positive attention. In July 2024, they released a new anime project that quickly generated excitement within the industry.
Berserk: The Black Swordsman Not Moving Forward Following Official Publisher Response
Recently, an English trailer for Berserk: The Black Swordsman appeared online, but the official copyright holder, Kentaro Miura (Studio Gaga), has stated that this production was not authorized. They also confirmed the videos used in the announcement were posted without their permission.
In October 2024, Studio Eclypse stated they hadn’t received any official requests to stop their project, such as a cease and desist letter or takedown notice. However, despite this lack of formal communication, Studio Eclypse appears to have stopped working on the project, which has led fans to believe that a new release of Berserk: The Black Swordsman is unlikely in the foreseeable future.
Studio Eclypse Puts New Official Berserk Anime Rumors to Rest
Studio Eclypse followed up to address rumors about a new, official anime adaptation, explaining that
Studio Eclypse, known for projects like Berserk: The Black Swordsman, has gained attention – and sparked debate – with its production of AOT Requiem. They also explained that animation is a time-consuming and demanding art form, and they are committed to creating something special for fans.
