Now that
Like many online role-playing games, this one can feel overwhelming when you first start playing. It takes time to get used to things – especially managing your items and finding the best way to gain experience in the beginning.
In this guide, we’ll give you a variety of tips to help make the early game smoother for you.
Best Tips & Tricks | Ashes of Creation – Early Access
Character Creation Tips

When you begin the game, you’ll first need to create a character. You can choose from 8 different classes, each offering a unique playstyle and set of abilities.
We have characters like the Bard, who helps teammates, the Rogue, who deals a lot of quick damage, and the Tank, who protects everyone by taking the hits. These are just a few examples of the many different characters available.
To learn more about each of these classes, read our guide to finding the best class for you. It provides a brief overview of each, helping you choose the one that suits your playstyle.

Beyond that, you’ll need to choose your starting region. We’ve covered this in detail in our starting area guide, but to quickly recap, we strongly suggest beginning in The Riverlands (Divine Gate of Aela).
The beginning of the game feels more refined and the quests guide you along nicely. This makes for a much smoother introduction and is a great way for new players to learn how everything works.
Do the Quests

You can begin completing introductory quests right away when you start playing. While the initial experience varies slightly depending on where you begin, the core gameplay is consistent across both starting areas.
Simply find characters with diamond-shaped icons over their heads. Talking to them will let you begin and continue quests.
The first few quests are a great way to gain experience and collect essential items, including your initial gear. Plus, you’ll eventually earn a mount through the story – you’ll need it, since there’s no fast travel in the game!
Don’t forget to collect as many Rations as possible from the first enemies you encounter, like Goblins. Rations are a good way to heal, and having a bunch early on will make your gameplay much easier.
Complete Destinies

As you play, you can also work on Destinies alongside your quests. You can view them by pressing the L key.
Destinies have two main purposes. First, they guide you through the game’s basic controls and actions, teaching you how to play. Second, they give you simple tasks to practice those actions.
Completing tasks lets you earn rewards, like extra experience points and even equipment from special chests!
We strongly suggest paying attention to Destinies in the game. They’ll guide you on how to play while also giving you rewards.
Check out Commissions

Along with those options, we also suggest checking the Commission bulletin boards found in each town. You can accept jobs, called Commissions, from these boards.
These quests are pretty simple overall. They usually involve collecting items or defeating enemies – nothing too challenging.
However, they can be decently rewarding as they give you a decent amount of XP and some Glint.
If you’re new to the game, it’s good to know that Glint is a valuable currency. You can exchange it for gold, buy useful items, and eventually use it to pay for your house.
Just a heads-up: if you die, you’ll lose any Glint you’re carrying! Be sure to store it safely in settlement warehouses or sell it to merchants for gold.
Anyway, we recommend not ignoring Commissions. The earlier you start doing these, the better.
Get That Bag

New players might find the inventory system a little tricky at first. It uses a grid to organize items, and you have a limited number of spaces and can only carry a certain amount of each item – it’s similar to how it works in games like Resident Evil 4.
Plus, your belongings are divided into separate bags, and some bags are designed for specific item types. For instance, a Mining Satchel is exclusively for items you get from mining.
We’re currently experiencing limited bag availability, so we encourage you to buy any you can find. You can purchase them from equipment vendors or certain NPCs related to professions. Getting them quickly will help make your gameplay experience much smoother.
Grouping Is Recommended

At the beginning of the game, you can comfortably play by yourself until about level 10. It’s quite manageable on your own if you follow our advice, like prioritizing quests and completing Destinies.
After reaching level 10, gaining experience becomes slower. Because of this, we strongly suggest joining groups and guilds to play with other players.
This is especially crucial if you’re playing a class that focuses on supporting others, like a Cleric, Tank, or Bard. However, the game is built to reward teamwork, making it easier and quicker to improve your character when you play with friends.
Potential Quick FPS Fix

Okay, so last thing – if you’re running into any performance problems while playing, I want to share a possible solution that might help.
As a player, I’ve noticed something kind of annoying – my frames per second (FPS) seem to decrease the more I play. It mostly happens if you’re someone who likes to play for hours at a time without stopping.
If you experience a decrease in performance, just log out and back in. Returning to the character selection screen and logging back in should resolve the problem and restore your normal frame rates.
You could also try closing the game completely and then starting it up again. This might fix the problem, but it will take a little extra time to load.
That wraps up our list of the best tips for having fun with the Ashes of Creation Early Access launch!
