Best Waystalker Ranged Build in Vermintide 2

In Vermintide 2, Kerillian’s Waystalker class excels at eliminating dangerous enemies quickly. Her unique ability easily defeats specialists like Assassins and Ratling Gunners, and her strong bow attacks are very effective against tougher enemies such as Marauders, Stormvermin, and Plague Monks.

Skilled Waystalkers are excellent at protecting their team by quickly eliminating high-priority enemies. This guide will cover a strong Waystalker build for Vermintide 2 that focuses on using ranged attacks to take down targets from a distance.

Best Ranged Waystalker Skills in Vermintide 2

Best Kerillian Waystalker Perks in Vermintide 2
Skill Effect
Carve Gain Temporary Health when you damage multiple enemies in a single melee strike.
Blood Shot Fire two projectiles with your next ranged attack after killing an enemy with a melee attack.
Assassin Deal 20% more damage against staggered enemies. Each hit against staggered enemies adds another stack of stagger. Deal 40% more damage with critical hits, headshots, and hits against enemies with multiple stagger stacks.
Asrai Focus Reduce the cooldown of Trueshot Volley by 20%
Kurnous’ Reward Killing a special or elite enemy with Trueshot Volley restores 30% ammunition.

This skill setup focuses on making your ranged weapons more powerful by firing twice as many projectiles and greatly increasing damage when you hit an enemy’s head. ‘Blood Shot’ is especially good if you like to quickly switch between weapons, and while it requires a final melee attack to activate, it’s usually ready to go whenever a tougher enemy appears in battle.

We recommend the Carve perk for temporary health, especially since we plan to use a Glaive as our main melee weapon (we’ll explain more about that later). You won’t get extra temporary health when fighting single enemies, but that’s okay – if you block or dodge effectively, you shouldn’t need it in those situations.

The Assassin skill is best for this build because it gives a direct bonus to headshot damage when enemies aren’t staggered. With enough damage from your weapons and items, this can let you instantly kill certain special or elite enemies, even on the hardest difficulties like Legendary and Cataclysm.

The talents Asrai Focus and Kurnous’ Reward help ensure you never run out of ammunition or your Trueshot Volley ability. Trueshot Volley effectively provides an endless supply of arrows, as long as you conserve your shots and don’t use everything in one encounter.

This character build isn’t the best at taking down bosses in Vermintide 2, but Trueshot Volley is incredibly effective at quickly eliminating dangerous enemies when things get hectic.

Best Waystalker Weapons and Items in Vermintide 2

Waystalker Loadout for Vermintide 2

Trinket Any Trinket Shrapnel — Enemies hit by grenades take 20% increased damage for 10 seconds. +Cooldown Reduction +Crit Chance

Okay, so for this build, I really like using the Glaive. It just does a ton of damage, and the way it swings covers a wide area – plus, it can actually cut through enemy armor! It’s amazing for dealing with hordes, and I can take down tougher guys like Stormvermin and Chaos Warriors pretty easily with it. If I’m not using the Glaive, the Greatsword is a solid backup. It also has those nice sweeping attacks, and while it doesn’t pierce armor normally, its charged attack is super consistent for landing headshots – which is a lifesaver!

For ranged attacks, the Longbow is the strongest choice for this character build because of its naturally high damage. This means you can defeat enemies with a single shot more often and hit harder with each attack than you would with other ranged weapons.

Perks

Barkskin is incredibly helpful for surviving the hardest difficulties in Vermintide 2, especially when collecting Grimoires. It prevents you from being quickly defeated by multiple attacks, and can protect you from the lengthy attack chains of enemy berserkers. However, you still need to be cautious around powerful enemies like Chaos Warriors, as they can still one-shot you with a strong hit.

The talents Shrapnel and Concoction are most useful during boss fights. Use a Chug potion to gain the benefits of all other potions, then throw a bomb – an Incendiary Bomb works best – at the boss. This will greatly increase your damage output for a limited time, unless a character like Kruber or Saltzpyre instantly defeats the boss with a powerful, one-hit attack.

The Glaive with Swift Slaying is excellent for quickly defeating large groups of weaker enemies. When surrounded, a good strategy is to attack twice, then block. This allows you to repeatedly use the Glaive’s wide, sweeping attacks, which are most effective against many opponents at once.

Using a Longbow with the Conservative Shooter perk, alongside Kurnous’ Reward, essentially provides unlimited ammo. Simply aim for headshots – or keep your crosshair at head level in busy fights – and keep firing! Even if you don’t always hit the head, you’ll use ammo much more efficiently.

Stats

Finding items with the stats you want can be the most challenging part of improving your gear in Vermintide 2. You can either hope for a lucky random drop, or create the item yourself with the stats you need.

It’s best to have your bow deal extra damage to unarmored enemies (like basic troops) so you can quickly defeat tougher enemies, often in just one or two hits. These unarmored enemies, often called ‘Infantry’, include things like:

  • Globardiers
  • Gutter Runners
  • Maulers
  • Leeches
  • Blightstormers

You’ll also want to have a Necklace that gives you some sort of survivability boost, such as:

  • Damage Reduction vs Faction (Skaven, Chaos, etc)
  • Max Health
  • Block Cost Reduction

You can customize the remaining options to suit how you like to play. For a general increase in damage, we suggest focusing on Attack Speed or Critical Hit Chance. Alternatively, boosting your Stamina Recovery will let you block and dodge attacks more frequently.
