The popular game Oblivion Remastered, originally released this year, will now be available on physical discs, thanks to a partnership between Bethesda and Xbox.
Bethesda Game Studios revealed on Monday that a physical copy of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is coming. They announced the news with a playful image, designed to look like an item found within the game itself.
Even after exploring two goblin caves, a sunken shipwreck, and all of Hackdirt, you still have no idea where you found this thing. 🤔

The physical version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will be released on October 13, 2025. You can now preorder it on Amazon for Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5, but remember you’ll need a console that uses discs to play it.
Oblivion Remastered is an updated version of Bethesda’s classic 2006 role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Developed by Virtuos and supervised by Bethesda Game Studios, it features completely new graphics built using Unreal Engine 5, while still using the original game’s foundation. It became available digitally in April for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.
This updated version of the game features several enhancements, including smoother combat and options to make it easier to play. It’s proven incredibly successful, attracting over 9 million players and becoming the second best-selling game in the U.S. so far in 2025, according to data from Circana.
I recently played The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and what I loved most was how true it stayed to the original game. They didn’t mess with the things that made Oblivion special – all the fun, quirky stuff is still there! But they also made it run much better on today’s computers, which is a huge plus.
I hope this physical version includes the game on the disc
It’s fantastic that this game is getting a physical copy for players who like owning games that way. I just hope the game data is actually *on* the disc itself, and not just a download code.
More and more physical game copies these days don’t contain the full game on the disc. Instead, they mostly serve as a key to unlock and download the rest of the game, essentially functioning as an expensive license check rather than a complete game.
Sometimes this practice is more frustrating than others, but it’s especially annoying when it comes to single-player games. I really hope the remastered version of Oblivion includes the complete game on the physical disc, particularly since it’s releasing quite a while after the digital version.
I don’t really collect physical copies of games, and I understand why game developers update their titles. Once a game is released on disc, it’s impossible to add things like patches, updates, or downloadable content – they simply come later.
That’s why I’ve long believed releasing a physical game after the digital version is usually the better approach. Players who prefer a physical copy deserve a complete and fully-featured edition.
By the way, if you’ve been waiting to get Oblivion Remastered, now’s a good time – it’s currently $20 cheaper than the original Deluxe Edition price from April.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Because it’s published by Xbox, you can also play it with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription.
