Bethesda fans, there’s only one day left to claim two classic role-playing games for free! Bethesda is known for both publishing and creating games, and their most popular titles come from Bethesda Game Studios – the team behind the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series. While Bethesda originally developed The Elder Scrolls from the ground up, many don’t realize they actually acquired the Fallout series back in 2004, a few years before releasing Fallout 3.
The Fallout RPG series became widely popular with Fallout 3, as it was the first installment released on consoles. While many discovered the series then, Fallout actually began with two earlier games: Fallout (1997) and Fallout 2 (1998). If you haven’t played these classic RPGs, now’s your chance! Both are currently available for free with a Prime Gaming subscription. The best part is, once you claim them, you get to keep them forever, even if you cancel your subscription.
Prime Gaming offers PC game codes through GOG for Amazon Prime members. While most people subscribe to Prime for benefits other than gaming, these codes are essentially free bonus games for anyone with a Prime membership. You’ll need to have a GOG account to claim them.
Old-School 1990s RPGs
The original Fallout games were challenging, top-down RPGs focused on stats and turn-based battles. They were similar to classic PC role-playing games of that era. Today’s Fallout games are more accessible, with simpler systems and a faster pace, offering a more casual experience.
The original Fallout, created by Interplay Productions, received an impressive score of 89 on Metacritic and was widely considered the best role-playing game of 1997. It also broke new ground for Western RPGs, a genre then largely influenced by Japanese games. Fallout 2 followed in 1998 and was similarly well-received, but it isn’t typically remembered as a landmark title in the same way as the first game.
