Fans of The Elder Scrolls series will be able to design a character for The Elder Scrolls 6 as a tribute to a friend or loved one who has passed away.
In February 2025, Bethesda hosted a charity auction with a unique prize: the winner would get to design a character for their next role-playing game. Many fans believed the editors of the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP) deserved this opportunity. UESP is a large, fan-created wiki dedicated to the *Elder Scrolls* series and has been online since 1995.
Although a different fan unexpectedly donated $85,450 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the UESP team received another opportunity. In May, Bethesda reached out to them (through Instagram and Games Radar) with a challenge: if the UESP community could match the amount donated by the anonymous auction winner to the same charity, the UESP editors would get to create a character for *TES 6*.
In memory of a fan, from fans
The team successfully completed this project with help from the UESP community, fans of The Imperial Library, and many content creators like YouTubers and streamers. The release of the Oblivion remaster also boosted traffic to the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages, and Bethesda provided valuable assistance.
Players wanted more than just character customization; they hoped to see themselves represented within the game’s world. This desire initially surfaced through discussions about Loranna Pyrel, a dedicated online contributor to the UESP project and the creator of the popular forum-based role-playing game *Loranna’s RP*, which ran from 2004 to 2006.
I was so bummed to hear that Pyrel’s friend passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of 2024. It really hit the community hard. As a tribute, someone had the amazing idea to create a character in *The Elder Scrolls 6* to remember them. Honestly, I think that’s what made the whole thing resonate with so many players – it was a beautiful way to honor their memory, and it’s awesome to see it became such a success!
From caution to excitement
UESP recently announced on social media (including X and BlueSky) that its editors were invited to Bethesda’s offices to discuss their character in the game. The team admitted to being nervous beforehand, but they left the meeting feeling “extremely excited” about the future.
It’s understandable why fans are so hyped for Bethesda’s next game after a post like that. Still, some online are finding it hard to get excited, especially after waiting eight years since TES 6 was first announced, even with positive reactions from a trusted source like UESP.
If only there were some official news about the game instead of more “credible” rumors…
