Beyond Good and Evil 2 Creative Director Says it is Not Affected by Ubisoft’s Restructuring

Even though Ubisoft has gone through some big changes, development on Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still moving forward. Creative director Fawzi Mesmar shared an update on LinkedIn, reassuring fans that the game hasn’t been impacted by the company’s recent restructuring. He also expressed disappointment over the cancellation of other games.

I want to thank everyone who has contacted me about the recent news at Ubisoft. I, along with my team and our project, Beyond Good and Evil 2, are not impacted by these changes.

Honestly, it really bums me out to hear about all the layoffs happening at Ubisoft and across the gaming industry. It’s tough news for a lot of talented people, and I think we all need to do what we can to support those who are affected – myself included. It’s the least we can do.

Mesmar ended his message by assuring players that the team is still dedicated to creating an amazing game.

Rumors suggest that Beyond Good and Evil 2 avoided cancellation despite recent cuts at Ubisoft, and the company has already spent over $500 million developing it. The current version of the game has been in the works since 2017, a significant amount of time after its original announcement in 2008.

Following recent speculation, Ubisoft officially confirmed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still a key project within its plans for open-world games. The company stated that Beyond Good and Evil will be developed by a dedicated team – Creative House 4 – focused on creating immersive fantasy worlds and story-rich experiences, and that Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains a high priority for them.

Last week, Ubisoft announced significant changes, including the cancellation of five projects, such as the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The company described these changes as a broad effort to refocus on creative control and achieve long-term, stable growth.

The company is restructuring its development process around five “Creative Houses.” Each house will focus on specific types of games, franchises, and target audiences. For example, Creative House 2 will handle action and team-based shooting games like Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and The Division. Meanwhile, Creative House 5 will concentrate on more relaxed, family-oriented titles such as Just Dance, Ketchapp, and Uno.

Ubisoft announced it’s developing four brand new game franchises, including March of Giants, a team-based strategy game they recently acquired. March of Giants will emphasize smart tactics and strong teamwork.
