Beyond Good & Evil 2 PS5 May Not Be Dead Just Yet

Despite focusing on remakes of Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed, it appears Ubisoft still has a small team continuing development on Beyond Good & Evil 2.

The French publisher recently posted a job opening for a Technical Sound Designer, and the role will focus on their much-anticipated, ongoing project.

The successful candidate will join the Montpellier team and be responsible for making sure the audio systems work correctly with the game’s sound effects, following the direction of the Audio Director. The role will focus on the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2, with a start date as soon as possible.

The game was originally announced with a trailer at E3 2017 as a prequel for the PS4, over eight years ago. Since then, it hasn’t been shown publicly. Here’s how Ubisoft is talking about it now, in 2025.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an exciting open-world action-adventure game, and a prequel to the beloved 2003 original. Built with new, cutting-edge technology, the game lets you explore a vast and colorful solar system, becoming a space pirate and uncovering secrets. You can play alone or team up with friends for a unique adventure. Join us in creating System 3 and experience something truly special!

While the new game was taking a long time to develop, Ubisoft also created and released a 20th Anniversary Edition of the original Beyond Good & Evil.

I was so excited to see the new version includes some cool collectibles that hint at stuff happening outside the game – and maybe even connect to Beyond Good & Evil 2! I’m still holding out hope that sequel will actually come out, but at least it feels like the team is still working on things. Honestly, even the 20th Anniversary Edition is amazing – I remember our review gave it an 8/10 on PS5, and it absolutely deserves that score. It’s still totally worth playing!

This version of the game features polished graphics, a stunningly restored soundtrack, and thoughtfully included bonus content. While it definitely shows its age, like all timeless classics, Beyond Good & Evil remains enjoyable and holds up well even today.
