Beyond Paradise stars tease Humphrey and Martha’s next chapter – including whether they’ll foster again

After a long journey, Humphrey and Martha from Beyond Paradise have finally tied the knot!

Humphrey and Martha first met briefly in London, but really connected while working together on ‘Death in Paradise’. Eventually, Humphrey moved back to the UK to be with Martha, and despite some difficulties, they are committed to their relationship.

But what can we expect from the couple in season 4, which will arrive in the new year?

Kris Marshall believes the team seems more stable and balanced heading into the next series. He feels this will make for a less stressful, and ultimately more enjoyable, experience.

After moving to Shipton Abbott, Humphrey and Martha went through the challenges of IVF and fostering. Now, though, they’re doing really well and seem to be happily enjoying their time together as a couple, which is something I’ve always admired about them.

When they first met, both were a little disorganized and all over the place. Despite being very successful in their careers, they remain a delightfully quirky and somewhat chaotic couple, and they love each other for their unique personalities.

After the emotional experience of fostering Rosie last season – whom they’d become very close to before she unexpectedly returned to her mother – are they ready to foster another child?

“Just the two of us,” Marshall repeated as Bretton explained, “Exactly. We just wanted to celebrate what matters most and have a moment together. After that, we’ll see what happens.”

Marshall explained that the judges were especially moved by Rosie. He sensed that, despite likely knowing it wasn’t realistic, they saw potential in her performance – a feeling their logical minds probably also recognized wasn’t there.

Despite everything, the emotional side – the part that held onto hope and worry – secretly wished they could still have a future together as a family.

Thankfully, the show avoids being overly sentimental, and the characters’ hopes didn’t come true. While this didn’t seem to cause them much pain, the story ultimately focuses on their relationship as a couple. This theme – the question of whether it’s enough to just be the two of them – is consistently revisited throughout both ‘Death in Paradise’ and ‘Beyond Paradise’. It’s a recurring reassurance that being together is all they need.

It’s important to acknowledge that having fewer children is becoming more common, and that’s perfectly okay.

Now that they don’t have any immediate family obligations, are they hoping to go on a honeymoon?

Bretton believes she certainly considered the possibility of a wedding, though Marshall shared that a vacation won’t be happening in the fourth season.

You’re right to point out they’ve never had a honeymoon, which is a good idea for a storyline if we make another season. I’ll definitely push for them to have one – they could go anywhere!

“But the Caribbean would be great.”
