Big Bang Theory Star Reveals Why Their Character Vanished (& If They’d Return)

Sara Gilbert sparked joy among fans when she teamed up with her former “Roseanne” co-star Johnny Galecki in the popular sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” taking on the role of Dr. Leslie Winkle. During the series, she shared a romantic past with Galecki’s character, Leonard, and had a more casual connection with Howard (Simon Helberg) at one point. Fans may recall that her character mysteriously disappeared from the show following the end of its third season. In a recent interview on “The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast,” Gilbert clarified the reasons behind her character’s absence and hinted at the possibility of returning to the series in the future.

When the host inquired about a potential larger role for Gilbert on the show or her possible involvement in the upcoming spinoff, “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” she appeared eager. “Absolutely, I’d do more,” Gilbert responded. “I would have taken on more roles initially.

The original character who used to be a mainstay in the series later shared insights about how her narrative eventually came to an end. “I believe the writers may have run out of ideas for the character, possibly due to her tendency to move on swiftly from certain dynamics, leaving little room for further development. It’s like, well, where do you go next? She’s set up that way, and she departed, which leaves not much more story left, truth be told. But it was fun, and I enjoy working, so I’m always ready to participate.

It seems that the writers’ creative freedom was limited regarding this topic, as it had been previously decided that Leonard and Penny would ultimately reunite. This decision significantly narrowed the potential storylines for Leonard’s other romantic prospects, regardless of how intriguing or entertaining they might have been.

It’s pleasing news that Gilbert might return to play Dr. Winkle again since the spinoff starring Kevin Sussman is gaining traction. A reunion could happen soon, so stay tuned for updates! We’ll keep you posted as we find out more details.

For those unaware, Dr. Winkle is a physicist who conducts experimental research, working at California Institute of Technology, where Leonard also works. She exited the series rather abruptly following Season 3 but continued to make occasional appearances until her last one on the show’s 200th episode in Season 9.

Regarding the eagerly awaited spinoff, it’s Zak Penn who is set to write the new series together with Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady from “The Big Bang Theory”. It’s delightful to know that the creators of the original concept are actively involved in the development of the spinoff.

As a dedicated movie buff, I’d like to share my thoughts on a TV series that I absolutely adore – “The Big Bang Theory.” This show revolves around the lives of a band of brilliant but socially awkward physicists, including myself (sort of), and it spans an impressive 12 seasons. In this cosmos, you’ll find Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons; Leonard Hofstadter, portrayed by Johnny Galecki; Penny, brought to life by Kaley Cuoco; Rajesh Koothrappali, acted by Kunal Nayyar; and Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, played by Melissa Rauch. Last but not least, there’s Amy Farrah Fowler, portrayed by Mayim Bialik.
