Ashley Hollis isn’t tolerating disrespect outside of the house.
Okay, so I’ve been completely obsessed with this season of Big Brother, and the winner, she’s just amazing! After the finale on September 28th, she had to address something that was really bothering me. Another houseguest, Mickey Lee, said she was the only ‘traditional Black woman’ left in the game, and honestly, it was awful. She had to respond to all the comments about her racial identity, and I just feel for her having to deal with that on top of winning the whole thing! It’s been all over my feed, and I’m so glad she’s speaking out.
In a TikTok video posted on October 27th, Ashley, 25, responded to a fellow contestant from her season who questioned her race. While dancing with her parents, she highlighted their shared features and affirmed their Black heritage, stating, “Looks like two Black parents to me.”
Although Ashley didn’t mention her former co-star by name, viewers immediately connected her comment to a recent statement made by Mickey, 35, about what it was like being a Black woman on the show Big Brother.
Shortly after she was eliminated from the CBS series on Sept. 5, she clarified her words.
Mickey recently told Entertainment Tonight that he is fully African American and has personally faced racism throughout his life. He emphasized that he hasn’t had any advantages in his career due to his race, suggesting this is a unique experience. While he believes Ashley is also African American, he noted they both come from different backgrounds.
She continued, “When I say traditional Black girl, I mean the ones that people always stereotype.”
I was really struck by what Mickey shared the next month. She explained that she felt she was the only Black woman in the house being judged and seen through harmful stereotypes, and it was incredibly powerful to hear her speak so honestly about that experience.
In a recent TikTok video, she explained that people constantly questioned whether her long hair was natural. She also said she was asked inappropriate and personal questions, including about her family background, financial situation, and even her knowledge of popular culture and dance moves, simply because she grew up with a single parent.

Mickey explained that although she wanted to talk about her time on the show, she didn’t want to make anyone feel like their experiences as a Black person weren’t important or valid.
It wasn’t that I was treated poorly, but I definitely felt a lot of pressure to succeed and fit the expectations people had for me.
