Bill Murray, Son Luke Murray Have Slam Dunk Response to UConn Win

Bill Murray has a courtside seat to his son’s success.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was totally glued to the screen watching UConn beat Duke! And not just because it was an amazing game – it was because Bill Murray was there cheering on his son, Luke! Can you imagine? Seeing Bill Murray so proud of Luke after they made it to the Final Four? It was the sweetest thing ever, and I seriously can’t get over it! I’ve been following Luke’s basketball career for ages, and to see his dad there supporting him… it just makes my heart melt!

After the Huskies achieved an unexpected comeback win – sealed by a last-second three-pointer from freshman Braylon Mullins, bringing the final score to 73-72 – Bill shared a hug with Luke, the team’s assistant coach, in a moment captured on video and posted to X.

The comedian, wearing UConn clothing, was clearly thrilled and happily congratulated Luke with a pat on the back.

Bill is a consistent supporter of his 40-year-old son, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Margaret Kelly. Throughout his son Luke’s five years at the school, the actor – known for Groundhog Day – has frequently been seen cheering from the stands at both regular season games and NCAA championship tournaments. The team won national championships in 2023 and 2024.

Next season, Bill will have another team to support—his son, Luke, has been named head coach of the Boston College men’s basketball team.

Bill, who is also the father of Homer (44, with Maragret) and Caleb, Jackson, and Cooper (30-33, with ex-wife Jennifer Butler), has often discussed his son Luke’s achievements as a coach.

After Luke helped UConn reach the Final Four and ultimately win the championship in 2023, his father, Bill, shared in an interview with the Big East Conference how proud he was. He described Luke as a great kid who had worked incredibly hard to achieve his success.

He said he was beaming earlier, but now his jaw feels much better and his face is relaxed.
