Billionaire Telegram CEO Pavel Durov arrested at French airport

As a seasoned analyst with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of tech leaders finding themselves in hot water with law enforcement agencies. The latest addition to this club is Pavel Durov, the enigmatic CEO of Telegram, who was recently apprehended at Le Bourget airport, Paris.

According to reports from TFI Info, Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, was apprehended by authorities upon arriving at Le Bourget Airport in Paris, following his return from Azerbaijan. He was traveling with a female companion and his security detail.

Significantly, the CEO faced a warrant for his arrest, issued by the French Judicial Police’s OFMIN (National Directorate). The primary reason was non-compliance with law enforcement. Furthermore, it is also claimed that he was involved in sexual misconduct, fraudulent activities, and drug trafficking.

It’s worth noting that Durov has encountered legal issues before. In fact, the CEO of Telegram was previously in conflict with Russian authorities over his role as co-founder of VKontakte, a popular Russian social media platform. Back then, he resisted censorship demands and refused to disclose user information to the government, leading him to depart from the company.

Telegram’s crypto takes hit as a result

TONCOIN (TON) has experienced a significant drop following the arrest of a social media founder. In just an hour, the coin’s value decreased by more than 10%, currently trading at $5.98 as reported by CoinMarketCap. Yesterday’s chart also shows a similar pattern of loss, and over the past week, the coin has lost over 7%.
