Billy Porter is bowing out earlier than expected.
Approximately two months into his role as host of the Broadway production of “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” for its final 13-week run, the actor had to leave the musical due to persistent health issues.
On Instagram, the company announced on September 7th that, due to a severe bout of sepsis, Billy Porter is unable to continue with the production. His physicians are optimistic about his complete recovery and have recommended he adhere to a relaxed schedule instead.
Due to an unexpected exit by Billy, the performance of “Cabaret” will now end earlier than planned, with Marty Lauter and David Merino stepping in to perform the captivating yet sometimes uncomfortable role, until the last show on September 21st.
Prior to my appearance on the Broadway stage, which was originally scheduled to conclude on October 19th, I, along with Marisha Wallace, had already breathed life into the musical on London’s West End from January 28th to May 24th.
Adam Speers, the producer, praised Billy’s work and reminisced about the challenging choice made in ending the run of ‘Cabaret’.
In a statement, it was noted that Billy stood out as an exceptional host, demonstrating his unique enthusiasm and exceptional abilities. We hope for a swift recovery for Billy, and we eagerly anticipate collaborating with him once more in the not-too-distant future. (The Hollywood Reporter reported this.)
The version of Emcee in the show Pose, which has been performed by actors like Alan Cumming, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Adam Lambert, among others, was originally inspired by the performer’s personal identity as an African-American individual, as he had previously shared.
As a devoted disciple of the narrative, I embark on a perilous escape from the oppressive Jim Crow South, seeking sanctuary in Europe, believing it to be a haven. Regrettably, I discover that safety is elusive even beyond its shores. This, in essence, encapsulates my voyage.
Despite having his Broadway stint prematurely ended, the actor will forever hold dear his tenure as a host in New York City and London.
In his recollection, stepping onto the West End stage for the first time felt enchanting. He expressed his deep gratitude for having the opportunity to be part of something meaningful at this moment. The experience was truly magical and he adores London.
As Billy continues to heal, keep reading for more celebrity health scares.

To clarify, let me add that just a few weeks or perhaps a month ago, I was squatting approximately 295 pounds. However, now, I’m incapable of performing even a single-leg squat – if I attempt it, I’d topple over. It’s as though I’ve suffered some kind of stroke or similar incident.

She recounted an episode on Call Her Daddy where she jokingly asked everyone to calm down due to her “puffier” appearance in January 2025. However, doctors started commenting and suggested that she might have Cushing syndrome. Overwhelmed by being trolled by medical professionals, Amy realized she had been receiving steroid injections for scar treatments. In March 2022, Hailey Bieber had a truly alarming incident while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She started showing symptoms similar to a stroke, as she struggled to respond or speak properly, and her facial muscles drooped on one side.
Hailey recalled the experience on YouTube a month later, saying that when Justin asked if she was okay, she couldn’t immediately respond due to uncertainty, and then found it difficult to speak at all.
Though the facial drooping stopped and her speech eventually returned, Hailey decided to visit a hospital to ensure everything was alright. There, they discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA).
Afterwards, Hailey went to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she learned that she had a hole in her heart known as patent foramen ovale (PFO). She explained that the blood clot had traveled through this hole into her heart, escaped, and went to her brain, causing the TIA.
Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and is now feeling well.
In the same year, Hailey went through a health scare, Justin also encountered a similar issue – he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This condition led to temporary paralysis in parts of his face, forcing him to postpone the rest of his Justice World Tour. During an Instagram video, he explained that this virus affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing facial paralysis. As a result, one side of his face was fully immobilized – his eye couldn’t blink, he couldn’t smile on one side, and his nostril wouldn’t move. He also shared that it became increasingly difficult for him to eat due to the paralysis, but eventually, he recovered. Hailey later confirmed on a Good Morning America episode that Justin was doing well and felt much better after the ordeal, although it had been a frightening and unexpected situation.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve always admired Jamie Foxx’s talent and resilience. In April 2023, he experienced an unexpected health crisis, choosing to keep the details private at first. However, during his 2024 Netflix special, “What Had Happened Was…”, he shared his harrowing experience.
One day in Atlanta, the Oscar winner recounted, he was struck by a severe headache. He asked his friend for an aspirin, but before he could take it, he passed out. For the next 20 days, he was unconscious.
Upon regaining consciousness, Jamie revealed that he had initially been treated by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, took matters into her own hands and drove him to a hospital where they discovered the cause: a brain bleed that led to a stroke.
Following the operation, Jamie woke up on May 4 in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then underwent rehabilitation and therapy in Chicago.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Jamie expressed his gratitude for the prayers of his fans. “All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer,” he said, “because I needed every prayer.

Emilia Clarke, famously known for her role in ‘Game of Thrones’, faced a battle not just on screen but in real life as well. In 2019, she penned an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker.
During a workout at the gym, she described experiencing severe headaches that led her to the restroom where she vomited profusely. The pain intensified, and she was aware her brain was injured. She was rushed to the hospital for a scan.
The diagnosis was grim: she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by brain bleeding. She had an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery.
She underwent immediate surgery to seal the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During her recovery, she also experienced aphasia, speaking nonsensical words.
A week later, the aphasia subsided and she was discharged from the hospital after a month’s stay. However, in 2013, another scan revealed a growth had doubled in size, necessitating a second surgery.
Upon waking from the procedure, she recalled the pain was unbearable. The doctors informed her that her condition was critical and another operation was necessary to access her brain through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia is now “100%” healthy.
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expresses her gratitude towards her family following a severe stroke she experienced in January 2024. Faced with this medical emergency, her loved ones promptly gathered around her. “I informed them via text message that I had suffered a stroke and attached a photo,” she shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone immediately came to my aid.”
Due to additional health complications, Cori’s hospital stay extended beyond her initial expectations. “I could have been discharged after the stroke, but my lupus wasn’t responding well,” the star of ‘Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story’ continued. “My kidneys were failing, and there was a lot going on.”
Today, Cori is recovering well. “I am doing quite well,” she added. “I simply needed to regain some motor skills, but aside from that, I was in good health.
As an ardent admirer, let me share my perspective on Shailene Woodley’s health struggles during her early twenties. It was a tumultuous time, marked by challenges that left her grappling with various health issues.
“I was on the verge of losing my hearing,” she candidly shared on the September 2024 episode of the SHE MD Podcast. “Walking for just five minutes left me needing to rest for hours, and I had stomach problems that made every meal a source of discomfort.”
Shailene faced a complex web of health concerns, with different doctors offering conflicting diagnoses. However, she chose to keep the specific condition private. Despite this, her holistic background and interest in herbalism drove her to seek solutions from both conventional medical professionals and independent healers.
This quest for wellness was a decade-long journey, during which she experienced other challenges as well. “The physical discomfort led to fear of food, which in turn resulted in mental struggles such as body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and feelings of insecurity about my own body,” she explained.
But after years of dedicated focus on her health, both physical and mental, Shailene is now thriving. “I’m delighted to say that I’m in good health now,” she shared happily. “My decade-long journey ultimately led to a resolution of my physical issues.
