So, here we are, folks! Binance co-founder Changpeng âCZâ Zhao has taken to the digital stage to vehemently deny the juicy rumors that heâs ready to spill the beans on his buddy, TRON founder Justin Sun. Apparently, the Wall Street Journal thinks itâs a good idea to stir the pot with claims that CZ is in cahoots with the U.S. Department of Justice. Oh, the drama! đ
âWSJ Is Really Trying Hereâ â Binance Co-Founder
According to a rather sensational report from the Wall Street Journal (because who doesnât love a good scandal?), CZ supposedly agreed to provide evidence against Sun as part of his plea deal. And just when you thought it couldnât get any more thrilling, the WSJ also alleged that Binance executives are lobbying the U.S. Treasury to ease up on their watchful eye. Because, you know, who doesnât want a little less oversight in their life? đ
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter, but letâs not get into that), CZ quipped that the âWSJ is really TRYING here,â as if they were auditioning for a role in a soap opera. He downplayed the claims, insisting that he wouldnât have served any jail time if he had indeed become a government witness. Because, obviously, thatâs how it works, right? đ¤ˇââď¸
And letâs not forget, CZ was totally prepared for this report. He had already hinted that the âWSJ is writing another baseless hit pieceâ in a previous post. Itâs almost like he has a crystal ball! đŽ In his latest post, he reiterated his belief that someone must have slipped the Wall Street Journal a little cash to lead a smear campaign against him. Because, of course, thatâs the only logical explanation.
To be clear, there were NO âmoney launderingâ or âfraudâ charges. You are confusing âANTI-money launderingâ to âmoney laundering.â One is a failure to prevent/police. One is doing it yourself. Two very different things. đ
Now, letâs rewind a bit. CZ was sentenced to four months in prison in April 2024 after pleading guilty to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) violations as Binance CEO. He was released from U.S. federal prison in September 2024 and has since been dabbling in various ventures, both in and out of the cryptocurrency world. Talk about a comeback! đ
Justin Sun Downplays CZ Plea Deal Rumor
Meanwhile, Justin Sun is over here trying to downplay the WSJâs allegations against CZ. In a post on X, he claimed heâs blissfully unaware of the swirling rumors. âCZ is both my mentor and a close friendâhe has played a crucial role in supporting me during my entrepreneurial journey,â the TRON founder said, probably while sipping a latte and scrolling through his phone. âď¸
Sun also emphasized that he has a direct and honest communication line with both CZ and the U.S. Department of Justice. He even mentioned that the DoJ is one of the closest and most trusted partners of T3 Financial Crime Unit (T3 FCU)âa blockchain security initiative co-founded by TRON, Tether, and TRM Labs. Because nothing says âtrustâ like a bunch of crypto moguls and government officials hanging out together! đ
