Bindi Irwin proved she’s always by Robert Irwin’s side.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I was so touched by this moment! Bindi Irwin, the incredible wildlife conservationist, surprised everyone by joining her brother, Witney Carson, in his latest Dancing With the Stars performance. It was a beautiful tribute to their late father, Steve Irwin, on the November 11th episode – a truly heartwarming and emotional moment to witness.
As their emotional foxtrot to Leona Lewis’ “Footprints in the Sand” neared its end—a song Bindi Irwin previously danced to with Derek Hough during her winning freestyle routine in season 21—the dance partners briefly separated. Bindi then walked over and finished the performance holding her brother Robert‘s hand.
When the music stopped, the contestant on season 34 became overwhelmed and collapsed in tears, with Bindi and Whitney comforting him. The screen then showed a touching video of him with his late father, who passed away in 2006, while his mother, Terri Irwin, watched from the ballroom floor.
Following the show’s 20th anniversary episode—where Andy Richter and Emma Slater were eliminated—Robert discussed his performance, which the judges—Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, Derek, and guest judge Tom Bergeron—gave a perfect score of 40, calling it a step forward in his journey.
He shared on Instagram on November 11th that the dance felt very emotional, beautiful, and significant. He explained that he honors his father’s memory in all his work, and it meant a lot to dedicate their foxtrot performance to him.

The performer continued, thanking Bindi Irwin for her inspiring dance to the song, and Whitney Carson for choreographing such a moving and expressive piece. She especially appreciated Carson creating a safe space for her to share feelings she’d never expressed before.
Robert concluded his post by sharing the love of wildlife he inherited from his father, and expressed how proud he is to continue his father’s legacy.
My dad’s legacy means everything to me, and as a Wildlife Warrior, I’m committed to continuing his important work. It feels incredible to be able to honor him and support the cause, even while doing something as unexpected as dancing on the ballroom floor. I’m just so thankful for the opportunity.
