BioShock movie confirms key story details and what is holding up production

For quite some time now, the production of the BioShock movie has faced numerous challenges during its early stages. However, we now have essential plot details finalized along with the reasons for the delays in more recent times.

Initially, Netflix revealed the project in 2022, leading some to believe it was a forgotten production due to limited information. However, behind the scenes, the project has been steadily moving forward.

Given the remarkable success of video game adaptations in recent times, as seen with The Last of Us and Fallout, one might expect a greater sense of haste in bringing this film to completion.

It seems there’s a delay because Francis Lawrence, the director for the BioShock movie, is waiting for the right moment in his schedule to finish it, and they are also dealing with setbacks in the script-writing process.

Regarding Lawrence’s recent movie, The Long Walk, which is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 dystopian novel with the same title, Lee explained that the film came to fruition because “BioShock” was temporarily delayed, allowing them additional time for script development.

Currently, Lawrence has already agreed to star in the upcoming “Hunger Games” film. At present, they are merely refining the script for it.

2026 seems so far away for the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and with that, it looks like I’ll have to wait even longer for the highly anticipated BioShock movie to hit the screens.

Regarding the content of the script, Lee disclosed some information, indicating that despite Netflix preferring secrecy, the BioShock movie is indeed based on the initial BioShock video game.

It’s not unexpected, given that many fans consider the original BioShock to have the most compelling narrative among the trilogy, and much of the foundation for the subsequent games’ plots can be found in this influential game.

According to discussions on Reddit, numerous key plot elements from the game could seamlessly transition into a movie. For instance, events like the plane crash, initial meeting with a Big Daddy, and all audio recordings could serve as flashback scenes.

There is also a book, BioShock: Rapture, that could offer up a lot in the way of lore and context.

Time alone will reveal the outcome! In the meantime, followers of BioShock might find it intriguing to watch for Judas, the upcoming project from Ken Levine, who is renowned for creating BioShock.
