Ah, the Bitcoin wars! Just when you thought crypto couldn’t get more dramatic, enter Luke Dashjr, the Knots developer who’s stirred up a hornet’s nest with some leaked messages. The drama hit the fan on September 25, courtesy of The Rage, a publication that has, apparently, found the one topic that can make Bitcoiners fight like cats and dogs: hard forks. 🐱🐶
So, what’s the fuss? Well, Dashjr’s chat, which is now as famous as your favorite celebrity gossip, hints that he might be plotting a hard fork to “save Bitcoin.” No, really. This is like a crypto superhero versus villain scenario, except the superhero is… trying to save Bitcoin from itself? Confusing, right?
In the now-infamous conversation, Dashjr talks about a looming issue with Bitcoin Core’s upcoming v30 upgrade. The upgrade, scheduled to increase the amount of data Bitcoin nodes can store (from 80 bytes to a whopping 100,000 bytes via OP_RETURN), could open the floodgates for things like media storage. Yes, media storage. And with that, possibly, more nasty stuff like Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). According to Luke’s camp, this is a problem that Bitcoin needs to nip in the bud before it gets worse. 😱
Knots, the alternative Bitcoin software Dashjr supports, emerged as a sort of Bitcoin’s “clean-up crew” in the past, filtering out what they considered spam and garbage. It’s kind of like a well-meaning bouncer at the club, except instead of throwing out drunk people, it’s throwing out data it doesn’t like. Critics, however, say this approach reeks of centralization and censorship. Because, you know, Bitcoin is supposed to be decentralized, not a corporate-run club with velvet ropes.
The Bitcoin Drama Thickens
In typical crypto fashion, Dashjr responded to The Rage’s article by calling it “fake news.” Ah, yes, the classic move. But, hold up-he didn’t actually deny writing the leaked messages. Hmmm… seems like he’s not fully backing out of this one. The plot thickens, folks. 🕵️♂️
After calling our reporting “fake news,” we’re still waiting for @LukeDashjr to deny that he wrote the messages in question.

And just when you thought this couldn’t get any juicier, an account claiming to be Dashjr’s “chief boiling officer” from the OCEAN mining pool waded into the mess. This account defended Luke with a meme, calling the article “clickbait journalism” and “nonsense,” while simultaneously confirming that, yeah, Luke might’ve actually written those messages. Talk about mixed signals. 🤷♂️
Bitcoin Core’s v30 supporter, Udi Wertheimer, also jumped in, slamming The Rage for their “sloppy low quality propaganda piece.” Oh, and Wertheimer threw in some tech talk about the whole hard fork issue, reassuring everyone that a hard fork was the least of their worries. Who knew Bitcoin drama had so much tech jargon? 🤓
i read the luke dashjr hit piece.
it’s wrong. basically the entire article is wrong.
i’m (obviously) not on luke’s side, but guys this is just a sloppy low quality propaganda piece.
first of all: sharing private messages is not cool. for many obvious ethical reasons. but one…

As the Bitcoin world continues to implode upon itself, BTC is trading around $109,500. Not bad, but it’s still way down from a brief peak of $114,000 just two days ago. Maybe everyone’s too busy arguing about hard forks to pay attention to their investments. 🤑
Long story short: The Bitcoin wars are far from over, and things are heating up faster than your average blockchain transaction. If you’re not already holding on for dear life, you might want to start. 🚀
