What to know:
- MSTR is hovering at $350, just shy of its 200-day simple moving average, which is basically the financial equivalent of a “you almost there, honey” pat on the back. 🏆
- Bitcoin is flirting with $118,000, up over 8% in September-its best September since 2013, or as I like to call it, “the last time my sister’s cat didn’t knock over a houseplant.” 🐱🌿
Strategy (MSTR) is inching toward its 200-day simple moving average (200SMA), a technical indicator so beloved by traders it’s like the financial world’s version of a comfort blanket. It smooths out price action by averaging the closing price over 200 days, which is roughly the same amount of time it takes me to finish a bag of chips. 🍟
MSTR is currently trading just above $350, slightly below the 200SMA at $355. The stock has been playing hard-to-get with this level since Aug. 25, with its only other moment of weakness this year coming in April during the “Trump tariff tantrum”-a phrase that sounds like a rejected reality show title. 📉
On Thursday, shares jumped 6%, rebounding from a support line last tested in September 2024 and April 2025. Yes, you read that right-April 2025. Apparently, MSTR is already planning its comeback tour before most of us have figured out our 2024 New Year’s resolutions. 🎢
This rally coincides with Bitcoin’s latest escapade, as it nears $118,000, almost a one-month high. Bitcoin is up more than 8% in September, making it the financial equivalent of a pumpkin spice latte-everyone’s talking about it, but no one’s quite sure why. 🎃☕
Year-to-date, MSTR has gained 18%, while Bitcoin has soared 22%. It’s like MSTR is the reliable older sibling who gets decent grades, while Bitcoin is the wild child who keeps setting off fireworks in the backyard. 🎆
Meanwhile, in the bitcoin treasury space, companies are taking a beating. Japan’s Metaplanet (3350) fell 10% on Thursday and is now down nearly 75% from its all-time high. It’s like they showed up to the party, but forgot to bring the chips and dip. 🥴
