Black Cat’s 7 Best Costumes, Ranked

Black Cat, a character from Marvel Comics, is known for her trendy and classic all-black outfits. No matter if she’s a hero or a villain, she always manages to look chic. When Black Cat decides to switch up her costume, it’s a big deal among fans who then compare the new one to the old one, often sparking discussions about which one is preferred.

Discussing superhero costumes is a cherished pastime among enthusiasts of comic books. While Black Cat might not always be in the spotlight of Spider-Man’s bigger stories, she has a loyal fan base who support her. It’s also worth mentioning that Black Cat currently stars in a new, ongoing series. To celebrate this new title, let’s revisit some of Black Cat’s most impressive costumes.

7) Black Cat’s Villain Era

During his extended tenure on the Amazing Spider-Man, Dan Slott transformed the Black Cat from an ambiguous character, often working alongside Spider-Man while also engaging in criminal activities like theft and heists, into a full-fledged villain. In this new role, she assumed control of a criminal gang, causing frequent trouble for Spider-Man. Accompanying this shift in demeanor was a fresh costume design for the Black Cat.

From my perspective as a dedicated fan, this revamped outfit spotlights a sleek, full-body black ensemble extending to Black Cat’s neck, while her shoulders boast stylish gold shoulder blades. Notably, the previous white fur trimmings on her ankles, wrists, and neck area have been transformed into black, underscoring Marvel’s clear intent to emphasize a villainous shift for the character. The only remaining trace of white is found in her cascading white hair, adding an intriguing contrast.

6) Black Cat as the Night-Spider

One advantage of the Spider-Verse is that it offers fans the chance to encounter fresh interpretations of their beloved characters. Occasionally, multiple heroes are combined to create something entirely novel. The comic Edge of Spider-Verse introduced Night-Spider, a character who possesses both Black Cat’s traits and Spider-Man’s powers.

In the realm known as the Spider-Verse, there exists a character resembling Felicia Hardy, who encounters a Spider Idol instead of a common spider. This is reminiscent of Peter Parker’s transformation into Spider-Man. Unlike the original Black Cat, who didn’t engage in fighting to protect the Spider-Verse, the Night-Spider takes an active role in preserving the Fate of Spiders and the Web of Life and Destiny. As she has become a spider herself, this new version of Black Cat incorporates elements of webbing from Spider-Man into her costume, which can be seen on her chest and fingertips.

5) Original Ultimate Universe Black Cat

Let’s discuss parallel worlds, specifically Earth-1610, where Marvel’s original Ultimate Universe resides. In this universe, Spider-Man played a significant role as one of the main attractions. Among his adversaries was Black Cat, whose appearance was much like her regular suit with a plunging neckline and a sleek black leather body suit.

In a notable modification, Black Cat’s mask now sports an addition – golden goggles that sit over her eyes. Her cat ears peek out from her white tresses, and these goggles might enhance her night vision, adding practicality to her appearance. This improvement seems quite logical for her character.

4) Black Cat Becomes the White Widow

In the universe of Spider-Man Noir, Felicia Hardy is known as the White Widow instead of the Black Cat. Her nightclub bears the name “Black Cat,” but Felicia herself takes on a new identity. Through her connections with reporter Benjamin Urich and criminal elements like the Crime Master, she becomes entangled in the underworld’s activities. So, it’s time to swap black leather for an all-white costume.

Due to her relationship with Spider-Man being exposed by Crime Master, Felicia Hardy’s face was scarred. In response, she started wearing a white mask and a matching suit, adopting a look similar to that of the White Widow character, Yelena Belova.

3) The New Ultimate Universe Black Cat

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Ultimate Universe has made its grand comeback, and with it, a fresh start for Ultimate Spider-Man! In this exhilarating new chapter, our beloved Peter Parker swings into action as a married man with a family – two wonderful kids who are undoubtedly proud of their superhero dad.

Early in his web-slinging career, Spidey encounters the enigmatic Black Cat, Walter Hardy. Their meeting unfortunately leaves her injured. But just when we think things can’t get any more intriguing, enter Felicia Hardy – a character who steps into the shadows to assume the mantle of the Black Cat!

I can hardly wait to see where Marvel takes this fresh take on these iconic characters!

In a surprising turn of events, this sleek black feline crosses paths with Richard Parker, who at that moment was donning Spider-Man’s black picotech suit. Meanwhile, Black Cat continues to keep her attire minimalistic, wearing a black bodysuit and eye mask. However, instead of the traditional white hair, she now sports glossy black curls.

2) Black Cat 2099

In 2019, one of Marvel’s initiatives featured the 2099 Variants, which transformed both heroes and villains into futuristic versions for a fresh take. As 2099 is set in one of Marvel’s multiple future timeframes, it provided an opportunity to modernize characters who didn’t previously have a 2099 counterpart. Among these characters is the Black Cat, who now sports one of her most stylish costumes to date.

In a futuristic style reminiscent of 2099, Black Cat 2099 sports a motorcycle helmet resembling TRON, illuminating her head, along with a shimmering silver neck collar that gleams under the night’s glow. Additionally, she dons wrist guards and knee pads that add a unique flair to her outfit compared to other costumes we have previously featured.

1) Iron Cat

Last, and absolutely not less important, is the Iron Cat armor. Unlike any other Black Cat costume, this one is unique as it was specifically designed for Felicia Hardy during her encounters with Iron Man. This armor made its debut in a popular Black Cat comic arc penned by Jed MacKay. After using the Iron Cat, she eventually handed it over to Tony Stark, but later, in a fresh Iron Cat series, it reappeared.

Instead of black leather, we’ve swapped for black armor. To make it clear that it’s a female character, we’ve incorporated pink into its color scheme as well. Black Cat retains her sharp claws and the distinctive Black Cat emblem on the chest plate remains. The Iron Cat’s widespread popularity with fans is what ultimately led Marvel to authorize an Iron Cat limited series, which has now earned it the top spot on our list.
