In the third quarter of this year, three chapters of Black Clover were published in the Jump GIGA magazine. The storyline has been building up to the final battle, with Asta gravely injured by Lucius in the last set of chapters. Before departing from the battlefield to recuperate, Asta passed his anti-magic powers onto Yuno, enhancing him with its strength and the sword. Now, Yuno – one of the most powerful characters in Black Clover – finds himself facing off against Lucius, but even he may not be able to defend the citizens on his own. With Asta currently out of action, the Magic Knights face mounting uncertainty over how they will thwart Lucius and his mighty troops.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Black Clover’s Summer 2025 Return!
In an unexpected development in Chapter 381 of “Black Clover,” titled “The Ultimate Mage,” the Paladins undergo a monstrous transformation, and instead of helping Asta recover, Morris – a notable Paladin from the Diamond Kingdom – hinders him. This shift focuses attention on significant characters originating from the same kingdom, who join the battle to support Asta as he seeks medical attention. In this latest turn of events, Mars emerges as the leader of the Diamond Kingdom, and Fanzell Kruger, a crucial mentor for Asta during his formative years as a Magic Knight, reappears nearly ten years after his last stint in the Witches Forest arc from 2016.
Asta’s Sword Teacher Returns

In his transformation into the Magic Knight we see today, Asta has benefited from numerous individuals who have molded him into the resilient character that he is. Among these influential figures, Fanzell emerges as a significant mentor in “Black Clover,” teaching Asta the art of swordsmanship, a skill crucial to Asta’s combat strategies. Although Fanzell might not meet the high standards of power within “Black Clover,” he is undeniably an accomplished master by trade, and has other formidable students under his guidance who once posed as the primary adversaries during the Witches Forest storyline.
Despite having a smaller part in the series, Fanzell’s influence on Asta’s development is crucial. He not only honed Asta’s swordsmanship but also taught him how to effectively use his anti-magic following the acquisition of his grimoire, making him one of Asta’s most vital mentors. His reappearance in the recent conflict does not center him solely but rather positions him as part of the combined might of the Diamond Kingdom supporting Asta, people who were previously saved by Asta’s actions. The current plot development showcases many adversaries-turned-allies joining the battlefield once more, and finding Fanzell among them is a quiet yet impactful touch. This twist highlights how Asta’s deeds have transformed the world of Black Clover, and although Yuno seems to be fitting the Wizard King role better, Asta has already realized his ambition of being esteemed and appreciated across the land.
