It’s been a year since we last heard about it, but Netflix has finally announced what’s next for the popular sci-fi series, Black Mirror. The show, which first premiered in 2011, has aired seven seasons with a total of 33 episodes. After season 7 was released on Netflix in April 2025, fans eagerly awaited news about the future of this critically praised show.
Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, announced today that the show has been renewed for an eighth season. In an interview with TUDUM, Brooker said he’s eager to make the new season feel distinctly like Black Mirror, adding that he’s already begun brainstorming ideas.
This weekend, Black Mirror is up for Best Limited TV Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti are also nominated for their individual performances on the show. Though this is Black Mirror‘s first Golden Globes nomination, it has already won six Emmy Awards.
Over its seven seasons, Black Mirror has attracted a fantastic cast, including stars like Jon Hamm, Anthony Mackie, Daniel Kaluuya, Miley Cyrus, Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemons, Andrew Scott, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Like the classic series The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror typically tells self-contained stories that tap into our anxieties about the future and technology.

When starting a new season, Brooker usually asks himself what kind of stories haven’t been told yet and what overall feeling he’s aiming for. He thinks about how each episode will fit into the larger picture and what musical style it will have. He jokes that viewers probably won’t ever see a lighthearted, country-themed Black Mirror episode.
