Black Mirror’s Brand-New Spin-Off Finally Breaks Its Silence With a Major 2026 Update

Even though it’s been a while since new episodes, Black Mirror remains incredibly popular, making spin-offs a natural next step. Fans expected the previous spin-off, but the newest one came as a bit of a surprise.

Black Mirror’s San Junipero Is Getting Its Own Spin-Off

I was really excited to hear that Twisted Comics is turning the Black Mirror episode “San Junipero” into a graphic novel! They’re Kickstarting the project now, which is awesome. They actually did a great job adapting the “USS Callister” episode previously, so I have high hopes for this one too. As What’s On Netflix reported, it’s a fantastic way to bring that beautiful story to a new medium.

Neil Gibson is writing the new comic, with Phil Buckenham providing the artwork, just like the previous one. The exact date the Kickstarter campaign will begin hasn’t been announced yet, but fans can register to receive updates when it launches.

Twisted Comics previously adapted the popular Black Mirror episode, USS Callister, as a graphic novel. The crowdfunding campaign was very successful, attracting 861 backers and raising around £49,000 – significantly more than its £15,000 goal.

Even more impressive is the fact that the USS Callister adaptation was fully funded in under 4 hours.

Good news for those who enjoy Twisted Comics and Black Mirror: the publisher’s next comic will be based on another popular episode of the show.

San Junipero Still Ranks Among Black Mirror’s Absolute Best Episodes

Although the USS Callister episode is a fan favorite and even received a sequel, many consider San Junipero to be the best episode of the Black Mirror series.

I absolutely adore the San Junipero episode. It’s a really intimate story, centering on the beautiful connection between Yorkie, who’s so reserved and thoughtful, and Kelly, who’s just bursting with life and energy. It’s a smaller episode, but it packs such an emotional punch because of their relationship.

Unlike many episodes of Black Mirror which focus on high-stakes, life-or-death scenarios, San Junipero stands out with its 1980s vibe and intimate, personal story. It’s also one of the most hopeful episodes of the series, portraying technology as a way to bring people together.

Even though this episode tells a complete, self-contained story, it’s one of the most popular Black Mirror episodes fans hope gets a follow-up.

Black Mirror’s Turn To Comics Makes Way More Sense Than Fans Think

While it might seem strange to adapt Black Mirror into comics, it actually works really well.

Horror, sci-fi, and fantasy comics often appeared in anthologies, and these played a big role in the history of the industry. Because they weren’t as closely watched, writers and artists had more freedom to create unusual and thought-provoking stories. This format helped launch popular series like Tales From the Crypt, which actually began as a comic book before becoming a TV show.

Though Black Mirror hasn’t been based on a comic book, it follows a tradition of shows inspired by the comic medium. Now, with Twisted Comics adapting the San Junipero episode, the sci-fi anthology world is completing a neat circle.
