In the year 2022, as we were emerging from the pandemic-induced lockdown, we welcomed the movie “The Black Phone” into cinemas, and it managed to make $161 million at the box office. Now, we’re excitedly anticipating its sequel, with the unveiling of the trailer for “The Black Phone 2.”
Four years past, 13-year-old Finn took down his kidnapper and managed to free himself, leaving him the lone survivor of the infamous “Grabber” case. However, true wickedness surpasses death’s grasp … and once again, a phone call echoes through. Four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke reprises his darkest role as the vengeful spirit of the Grabber haunts Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave, targeting Finn’s 15-year-old sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). Struggling with life after his ordeal, Finn, now 17, finds his headstrong sister Gwen plagued by late-night phone calls in her dreams and unsettling visions of three boys being pursued at a winter retreat named Alpine Lake.
Eager to resolve the mystery and alleviate their shared suffering, Gwen manages to convince Finn to brave a winter storm by visiting the camp. It’s there that she uncovers an unsettling connection between The Grabber and her family’s past. Faced with a formidable adversary who has gained power even in death, they find this entity holds a deeper significance for them than either of them could have anticipated, compelling them to confront it together.
The movie features Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Arianna Rivas in its cast. It is scripted by Scott Derrickson (who also serves as the director) and C. Robert Cargill, and it is inspired by characters developed by Joe Hill.
