In 2022, as the pandemic restrictions were easing, we released “The Black Phone” which had a good run at the box office, grossing $161 million. Now, we’re excited to announce that a sequel is on its way! The trailer for “The Black Phone 2” has been unveiled.
Four years ago, a 13-year-old named Finn managed to kill his kidnapper and escape, leaving him as the lone survivor of The Grabber incident. However, darkness never truly fades away… and now, the phone is ringing once more. Renowned for his four Oscar nominations, Ethan Hawke reprises his most chilling role as The Grabber looks to exact revenge on Finn (Mason Thames), now from beyond the grave. This time, he targets Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). As Finn grapples with life post-captivity, 15-year-old Gwen starts experiencing eerie phone calls during her dreams and unsettling visions of three boys being hunted at a winter camp named Alpine Lake.
As a cinephile, I found myself drawn into the heart of a gripping tale where the protagonist, Gwen, embarks on a personal mission to unravel a mystery that torments both her and her brother. In an attempt to unearth the truth, she manages to convince Finn to join her during a chilling winter storm at a remote camp. It’s here that Gwen encounters a startling intersection between the eerie presence of The Grabber and the shadows of her own family’s past.
This chilling adventure quickly takes an unexpected turn as they face off against a malevolent force that has garnered an alarming level of power even in death, and becomes more integral to Gwen and Finn than either could have anticipated. The tension builds as they delve deeper into the mystery, making for a suspenseful, nail-biting experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
In this movie, Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Arianna Rivas star. The film is penned by Scott Derrickson, who previously did an exceptional job on the initial film and also directs this one, alongside C. Robert Cargill. The characters were originally conceived by Joe Hill.
