News of a Blair Witch Project remake
I still remember when The Blair Witch Project came out in 1999 – it completely took the world by surprise! What really got everyone talking was this incredibly clever website they launched way back in the early days of the internet. It was such a smart way to promote the film, and honestly, it paved the way for how movies are marketed now. It’s amazing to think they made the whole thing for just $35,000, and then it went on to earn nearly $250 million! It was a massive success. And now, I’m so excited to hear they’re making a new Blair Witch Project movie!
Who’s behind the Blair Witch Project remake?
Dylan Clark will direct a new “Blair Witch” film as part of a multi-picture deal between Lionsgate and Blumhouse. Clark is known for his short films, particularly his horror short “Portrait of God,” which went viral and attracted the attention of production companies like Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkey Paw. The short film centers around a deeply religious woman preparing a presentation on a portrait that appears black to most viewers, though some claim to see a sinister figure within the darkness.
Behind the success….
Remaking ‘The Blair Witch Project’ feels risky. The 2000 sequel, ‘Book of Shadows,’ lost money, despite a $15 million budget. Gareth Wingard’s 2016 reboot did better financially – costing $5 million and earning $41 million – but its success relied heavily on the original’s convincing ‘found footage’ style and the marketing that presented it as a true story. Once audiences realized it was fiction, that level of deception became difficult to repeat. Nevertheless, ‘The Blair Witch Project’ pioneered the ‘found footage’ genre, inspiring many similar films.
