As a big Disney fan, I was a little sad to hear that Blizzard Beach Water Park has closed for the season. It officially happened on September 8th, 2025, after its last day of guests enjoying the slides on September 7th. Apparently, this is just a planned seasonal closure for some refurbishment, which is pretty standard. Disney hasn’t announced when it’ll reopen yet, so we’ll have to keep an eye out for updates. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can splash around there again!
Closing Blizzard Beach is a typical practice at Walt Disney World. The resort’s two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, usually take turns undergoing yearly maintenance. Since 2020, Disney World has generally kept only one of the water parks open at a time.
Disney typically closes one of its water parks for routine maintenance while keeping the other open. This helps them save money on staffing and operations during slower times of the year. After operating both water parks simultaneously this past summer – something they haven’t done since 2019 – Disney is going back to its usual strategy with the fall closure of Blizzard Beach. Blizzard Beach has typically been closed from May to November for these updates.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is currently the only water park open at Walt Disney World. Guests who previously planned to visit Blizzard Beach will now be directed to Typhoon Lagoon, which is open every day. Complimentary water park access for Disney Resort hotel guests will also now be exclusively for Typhoon Lagoon.
While this refurbishment is normal procedure, Disney hasn’t said exactly what work will be done. They haven’t announced any upgrades, new features, or improvements, and no construction permits have been released publicly yet. Past refurbishments have typically involved basic maintenance like repainting and safety checks, but Disney usually only shares details if significant changes are planned.
Reopening Date Unannounced
Currently, the Walt Disney World website and official updates show that Typhoon Lagoon is open through mid-November. However, Blizzard Beach doesn’t have any scheduled opening dates for the next few months.

Because we don’t have a definite date for when the water park will reopen, some guests might have trouble making travel plans. We recommend checking Disney’s official website and announcements for the latest information on schedules and reopening details.
Right now, Typhoon Lagoon is the only water park open at Disney World. Disney hasn’t said if they’ll switch which park is open later this year, meaning Typhoon Lagoon might close for updates once Blizzard Beach reopens. Blizzard Beach is currently closed for its regular seasonal maintenance, and Typhoon Lagoon is open to all water park visitors until further notice.
