Blondie’s Debbie Harry reveals the Oscar-nominated actress who she wants to play her and why

Movies about musicians are really trending right now – we’ve recently seen a film about Bruce Springsteen, and now another famous artist has shared who they’d want to portray them in a biopic about their own life.

Debbie Harry of Blondie has said Florence Pugh, the Oscar nominee, would be her dream pick to play her in a potential biopic. She told The Sunday Times she’d be thrilled if Pugh took on the role.

“I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything,” she explained.

Surprisingly, Florence Pugh has actually said she’d be interested in playing Blondie. Back in 2020, when asked about roles she’d like to take on, the *Little Women* and *Oppenheimer* star mentioned Blondie as a particularly cool figure she’d enjoy portraying, according to Entertainment Weekly.

It’s interesting to learn this actress isn’t the first considered for the part. I remember hearing years ago, back in 2007 actually, that Kirsten Dunst was in talks with the director about potentially taking on the role. Sadly, that project never came to fruition, which makes me wonder what could have been.

It’s important to remember that a movie about Harry’s life is currently just a possibility, not something that’s officially happening. That said, biopics – movies about real people – have become very popular lately, with films recently made about figures like Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, and Amy Winehouse.

Next year will also see a major Michael Jackson biopic hit theaters. Plus, Sam Mendes is planning a series of four Beatles films, each focusing on a different member of the band, with a planned release date in 2028.

If a movie about Debbie Harry is made, it will probably be based on her 2019 autobiography, *Face It*. The book details Blondie’s popular years in the 1970s and 80s, and also honestly shares her struggles with heroin addiction and financial difficulties.
