In recent years, K-Dramas have been dominating Netflix, with popular shows like “Squid Game” gaining international recognition, and many other series, including live-action adaptations of famous webtoons, garnering mainstream attention. One such series is a drama titled “Bloodhounds,” which originates from the original webtoon by Jeong Chan. After a successful first season, Netflix has confirmed that the second season of this live-action series is currently being produced. The second season will bring back Woo Do-hwan (“Mr. Plankton”) as Gun-woo, Lee Sang-yi (“Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”) as Woo-jin, and a new cast member, Jung Ji-hoon, best known for his roles in “Take 1” and “Red Swan,” who will take on the role of Baek-jeong, the series’ new antagonist.
In the initial series titled “Bloodhounds“, we follow Gun-woo, a determined young boxer yearning for success to improve his mother’s life. Regrettably, his mother becomes a victim of an unscrupulous loan shark syndicate. To rescue her, Gun-woo allies with Woo-jin and plunges into the grim world of hidden debt collection. As they navigate the underworld, they are compelled to fight in clandestine boxing matches as a means to outwit the malevolent groups controlling their actions.
Given the outstanding first season of “Bloodhounds,” premiered in 2023, and Lee Sang-yi’s award-winning performance as Woo-jin (which earned the Excellence Award in acting from the Korean Drama Awards), it’s hardly unexpected that a second season is on the horizon. Furthermore, “Bloodhounds” made its mark by being listed among Time magazine’s top 10 Korean dramas for 2023.
Live-Action Adaptations Of Popular Webtoons Are the Future Of Television
Webtoon offers an incredible selection of content that can be transformed into live-action drama productions. For instance, “Bloodhounds” is a fantastic, high-octane crime series, but there’s a vast array of dramas catering to all genres. Some recent hits include the chilling horror series like “Sweet Home”, “Strangers From Hell”, and “All of Us Are Dead”. For those seeking something more relaxed, there are also numerous romantic comedies available, such as the popular choices “True Beauty” and “Cheese In the Trap”.
Many other series share this same potential for adaptation into anime, as evidenced by the growing list of Webtoons being considered for such transformations. Although navigating through various hosting platforms to keep up with the most popular webtoons can sometimes be challenging, the standard of live-action dramas is on the rise alongside their popularity, making these stories more approachable and accessible to a broader audience.
