Although Bluepoint Games‘ previously announced project was cancelled in January, the studio seems to have moved on to a new game. Recent job postings on their website indicate they are hiring a Senior Combat Designer and a Senior Level Designer, both on a contract basis, suggesting development of a new title is underway.
Job postings suggest Bluepoint Games is developing a new third-person action game focused on close-quarters fighting. They are looking for a Senior Combat Designer with a strong grasp of how combat systems work in these types of games.
The Senior Level Designer will be responsible for creating and refining important gameplay elements like events, interactions, combat, puzzles, and how objects collide within the game. This suggests the new project will feature a mix of close-quarters fighting and puzzle-solving challenges.
As a big fan of Bluepoint Games, I’ve been following their work for years, and they’re famous for doing incredible remakes and remasters. So, when I heard about their new project, it felt like Sony was probably looking to bring back one of their classic games. There are tons of PlayStation titles they *could* remake, but based on what we know – a focus on third-person fighting and puzzles – I’m guessing it’ll be something like the original *God of War*. Honestly, I’d also love it if they revisited a hidden gem like *ICO* – that game was amazing!
The studio’s initial effort to create a completely new game was planned as a live-service title. Unfortunately, it was cancelled, along with several other similar projects at Sony, including games from Sony Bend and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Online, during a large-scale cut of in-development live-service games.
Although Sony cancelled some projects, the company confirmed that the studios involved – Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games – would remain open. In a statement released in January, Sony said these teams are valuable parts of the PlayStation Studios family and they are actively collaborating with them to plan future projects. An internal memo also clarified that Sony is committed to minimizing any negative business consequences and finding new work for both studios.
It feels like ages since Bluepoint Games put out a big game of their own! Their last major release was *Demon’s Souls* back in 2020, which was a total remake of the classic RPG from FromSoftware. Since then, they’ve mostly been helping out other studios. They did contribute to the release of *God of War Ragnarok* on PS4 and PS5 in 2022, but it wasn’t a Bluepoint-led project. I’m really hoping they announce something new soon!
Bluepoint Games hasn’t revealed what they’re working on next. It could be a remake of an existing game, or something completely original.
