This month, Blumhouse will launch an early access version of their new cooperative horror game. There’s no end to the variety of video games available today. Free-to-play games have become ubiquitous, AAA gaming offers numerous choices, and indie titles cater to specific niches across all genres. However, one genre that has gained significant popularity recently is co-op horror games. Games like “Friday the 13th”, “Dead by Daylight”, “The Outlast Trials”, and “Lethal Company” have provided distinctly terrifying experiences for players to enjoy with friends. Blumhouse aims to build on this popular genre with their new release.
In recent times, the movie production company Blumhouse has ventured into the gaming world. Although it was assumed that they would merely create video game adaptations of their numerous horror franchises, this is only part of their strategy. Instead, Blumhouse has moved to occupy a niche that the gaming industry has largely neglected. The studio’s role in Hollywood is to produce low-budget horror films, typically under a few million dollars, except for major productions like Halloween, which ensures profitability. This unique approach has made Blumhouse a dominant player in Hollywood and allows them to produce original horror movies with minimal hassle.
Presently, Blumhouse is venturing into the gaming realm, showcasing indie horror games as a publisher. Consequently, they are preparing to launch a new horror game titled “Eyes of Hellfire” this month. This intriguing cooperative horror game has been developed by Gambrinous, a studio based in Dublin. The game is influenced by Irish folklore and involves up to 5 players collaborating to escape a lodge by overcoming puzzles, battling supernatural entities, and more. Each player carries their own curse that they must resolve individually, yet circumstances may compel them to betray their allies for personal gain. This unique game promises an exhilarating experience when played with friends.
On August 27th, “Infernal Gaze” will debut on Steam’s early access platform priced at $9.99, featuring a 10% discount at launch. In line with Hazelight’s approach for cooperative games, Blumhouse is providing a “friend pass.” This means that one player can own the game and invite another to join for free, without the need for both individuals to purchase the game. Although the free player won’t retain the game, it simplifies the process of filling co-op lobbies without requiring everyone to buy it separately. However, those who have purchased “Infernal Gaze” will have additional features and content at their disposal.
